Who is this Benedict? The same guy that Nas and Athers be requesting confirmation of stats from during the live matches?
Yes he's a statistician and English which is clearly reflected in his choices. Top 8 leading first-class run-scorers all there (including Hendren and Mead), as well as the five leading wicket-takers (including Freeman, Parker, Jack Hearne and Tom Goddard). Sixteen names here took 2,000 first-class wickets. 40 English nominations in all with Grace at number one.

A positive thing is 22 entries who played mainly pre-1914. This is more like the right proportion given that organised cricket goes back 300 years, although more than six of them should have been Australians. The Poll of Polls manages 10 names from this period (with Bermange's added), and CW just 8.

The TMS list had a similar agenda when including every English captain since 1930 to win a series in Australia, which explained the presence of Jardine, Illingworth, Brearley and Gatting.

not a single "ODI" specialist in this list.

would be better to call this "100 greatest test cricketers"?

Pretty certain this was from a few years ago and doesn't include current players. If you've got 40 Englishmen and haven't included Anderson, Broad or Root then there's got to be a reason.

Who are some of those ONE day specialists that you would want to see in there?
a certain Bumrah probably deserves some sort of acclaim, maybe MS Dhoni (and i'm not even Indian)

not even Kohli in there

come on, India have literally dominated world cricket the last 10 or so years there should be some represenstation of this era

The list is from early 2017 (possibly even before that). Maybe if someone is going to post something like this they should offer some context.

Benedict Cumberbatch might make a better list.
I'm thinking that maybe he was the author because it does seem a rather Strange list. Some posters here feel that it's a betrayal of non-English cricketers so maybe it was made up by Benedict Arnold. The list has W.G. Grace as #1 and I haven't been able to find out whether he was Catholic or Protestant but if he were Catholic then maybe the list was made up by Pope Benedict XVI!
