Whatever it takes!!!
echo what SS told..
We'll be fine. The main issue with our inability to win games in the 90s was bowling, not batting.Well, if the "Fab 5 told to prepare for retirement" thread goes ahead, Indian cricket wont be in the greatest of states.
India have a huge amount of depth. Badri, Kaif, Sharma, Raina waiting in the wings batting wise and a wealth of spin bowling to replace Kumble (Chawla, Powar, Kartik just off the top of my head). They'll definitely be able to hold their own in the short term.Well, if the "Fab 5 told to prepare for retirement" thread goes ahead, Indian cricket wont be in the greatest of states.
We're not going to be minnow bad any time soon, but I do expect a lot more inconsistency when bedding in a lot of new guys. Once the 4 great bats go, we'll be so ridiculously reliant on Sehwag and Gambhir it's worrying. Unless of course someone steps up big time, but that would be a bonus for mine and unfair to expect a new guy to be able to come in straight away and accomplish.India have a huge amount of depth. The lost play at The 'Gabba certainly made some amount of impact too.I'd much sooner point the finger at McGrath and Warne being absent than Waugh's farewell.Dunno, they drew a series they should have won, as much as I loved seeing our batsmen pile on the runs. I'd say it did have an effect on the team.
Could go either way but hardly a period 'where they cannot win a game' and 'no hope'.We're not going to be minnow bad any time soon, but I do expect a lot more inconsistency when bedding in a lot of new guys. AWTA, Indian cricket probably has the best bench strength it has ever had, there are lot of talented young batsmen, spinners and fast bowlers waiting in the wings to get an opportunity, of course they aren't anywhere near the class of the fab 5, but they still are good enough to make sure that Indian cricket' standard doesn't dip much.Could go either way but hardly a period 'where they cannot win a game' and 'no hope'.
Waugh mentions in his book how Ganguly managed to get under the Aussies' skins, putting the boot on the other foot. "They have won most of their games at home, beaten West Indies 5-0 at home, beaten India, Pakistan at home," Ganguly said in an interview before the series. "They toured here in '96 and lost. They toured here in '98 and lost. So obviously that's going to be at the back of their mind."
"You had to give him an 'A' for effort in his attempt to annoy us," Waugh wrote, "and in particular me. It worked to a certain extent." It helps that India are a naturally aggressive side. That they don't give Australia a headstart.
Ganguly got India to think big. He believed Australia could be beaten, and he got his team to believe that. There were men in the side who would stand up against Australia's intimidatory tactics, so that when it came to the crunch Australia were not the predetermined winners. If others could choke against Australia, Australia could also choke against India - like they did in the final innings in Kolkata in 2001.
