Australia won the WC with 9 of their 11 being in their Ashes line up. if only England had gone with 9 of the 11 from Bazball . Crawley, Duckett, Moheen,, Root, Stokes, Brook, Buttler, Woakes, Wood, Anderson, Topley . Somehow I think that team would have performed better.

England players and selection discussion thread

Reality is that it’s fairly easy to choose a test squad and even easier to choose a T20 squad. But should a 50 over squad be based on T20 or test credentials ? My feeling is that the England players performing well under Baz Ball ( especially the batters ) should be able to adapt to ODIs fairly...

Delighted that all four( Crawley, Duckett, Pope and Salt ) are included for the WI odi squad. Had they played in the World Cup our batting would I believe have been way more solid. Not sure about the bowling changes though …

    ***Official***Match #36 - Australia vs England - November 4th - Ahmedabad

England must be the only team in history who score faster in tests than in ODIs

Who will be captain for the India tour if Stokes cannot go to India ? Pope ? Root ? Bairstow?

Considering they were so delusional their performance in the Ashes series was pretty impressive. Only the rain saved the ashes for Australia. Oh and the series was one of the best ever to watch.

What should England do with their much needed time off?

Get in training for the more important test cricket and the upcoming West Indies tour. England are still ranked Number 2 so push for the Number 1 spot.

Agree 100%. Do Australia leave out Green, Starc, Cummins and Hazelwood ? Their odi team is almost identical to their test team and yet they are 2nd in ODI rankings.

In those days England were not playing Bazball in test matches

I take the old fashioned view that the best players are those playing in test cricket and when you have a team scoring in tests at one day runs per over then stick with those players. As far as Robinson is concerned his economy rate is generally excellent and he is also a useful batter averaging...

Yes it’s the only way to win white ball matches . You have a kind of weighting system where when a team scores over 350 runs you compare their 10 lowest scoring overs against the best highest scoring overs of a team scoring less than 200. Even then England would still lose most of the time.

No I obviously meant Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois. Fixed it now .

    England thread

Yes, that‘s one option. Otherwise leave out Malan . Anyway it’s fairly academic since Crawley , Duckett and Robinson are mistakenly not there and I asume Stokes will not play any more white ball.

    England thread

Exactly. And choose the batters who have done it at test level. Nobody can tell me that Crawley , Duckett, Root, Brook, Bairstow, Stokes would not have been a better top 6 than the one we played today. And that would be 3 batters under 30 instead of the Dad’s army team with not 1 single player...
