Combining ODI and Test records, who are the 5 greatest cricketers ever?

Sachin the odi bowler was no where close to Viv.

Combining ODI and Test records, who are the 5 greatest cricketers ever?

Yeah but still below Viv as a bowler and fielder.

Combining ODI and Test records, who are the 5 greatest cricketers ever?

Yeah but in ODIs, Viv is close to being a legitimate all rounder and is certainly a better fielder than Sachin and the two WCs. Viv for me.

    Dale Steyn vs Viv Richards

No maybe I misspoke. What i meant to say is i usually see Gilchrist plus Don and Gary in most teams.

Viv vs Lara vs Smith: Who has the best series performances?

    I need therapy. Lol lol.

    Dale Steyn vs Viv Richards

I'd think it would be Bradman, Sobers, Gilchrist then the rest. Then again, the purists seem to prefer Knott. Either way, i usually see those two firsthand second the Sachin and Warne.

Viv vs Lara vs Smith: Who has the best series performances?

Ummm you are aware that Vaas also bowled in that series and he was on fire. He took 24 wkts at nothing. So Lara made runs vs atg spin and very good pace.

    Allan Border vs Steve Waugh

Idk, the 1984 wi attack was better and fielding much better. If the '95 attack had Bishop then I might agree. Both performances though, pretty much carried Australia.

    Allan Border vs Steve Waugh

Abstain. Both played a crazy amount of great attacks in their lifetime and generally each had varying degrees of success. Gun to my head however, I have a soft spot for Steve Waugh. The man made runs vs some serious attacks over his lifetime: averaged 40 odd when he first faced us in '88 vs an...

    Holding vs Gibbs

Especially Australia. We played 5 series in the 80s vs Australia and 4 were away. Plus the WSC limited overs tournaments.

    Holding vs Gibbs

Possibly. But we should also appreciate the fact that in the 80s, WI also did play the majority of their games on the road. Of the 20 series WI played in the 80s, only 7 were played at home. Contrast that to other great teams, where the ratio is more 50-50. Add that to what I said about the...

    Ricky Ponting vs. Allan Border

Me too. Safraz was important for pioneering reverse swing, ditto Imran. Sir Gary needs no introduction. Lillee was the modern architect of fast bowling etc.

    Ricky Ponting vs. Allan Border

Important to maybe India or Asia but that's it.

    Holding vs Gibbs

. Yeah it's a real head scratcher why they kept on scheduling games at Bourda...

    Holding vs Gibbs

There are pros and cons to either bowler. Holding could blast a side out on any wicket but his fitness was sometimes an issue. Garner wasn't as explosive but he was more consistent and he definitely could make runs scoring near impossible. Both can bring the nastiness where needed. Maybe leave...

    Holding vs Gibbs

This why this board can be so frustrating sometimes. There are people on here who I've spoken to b4 and they use the term "context" over and over again to suit their arguments and i listen. Let me say this again, maybe a quality spinner would've helped WI to finish off games sooner, we don't...

    Holding vs Gibbs

Ok I'm convinced. Play 3 fast bowlers say: Ambrose, Marshall, and Holding. Gibbs would be the 4th bowler and Sobers in his left arm pace version where I believe he averaged somewhere in the late 20s. Frankly, if the 3 pacers aren't able to get you out, then a 4th is probably pointless. Sobers...

    Brian Lara vs Jacques Kallis

I have no doubt that had Lara debuted when around the time Kallis did (ie late 90s) and not have to contend with the WWs, McGrath and Donald as extensively as he did, his average and other run scoring stats would be distinctly higher. Just my opinion.
