Young players who failed to realise their potential

Richard Sherlock was 140km+ at U19 level, but only played a handful (ish) of FC/List A games and had to go to 3 domestic sides to do it.

From memory, Nicholls was picked off the back of a Sri Lanka A series, where he scored one big, quick ton (did he score two? Maybe not) and Manu didn't make any significant runs. Nicholls scored 5-6 high quality Test tons (nine overall). I'm just not sure Manu had that in him v a very good SA...

As for the T20I stuff, honestly, I feel like he chose franchise cricket at a time where it was very obvious you wouldn't be selected for NZ. McClenaghan, Devcich, Munro, those guys were on the periphery and started to play in competitions that overlapped with representation for their...

Yeah...I'm about as big a fan of Colin as there is, and I can't exactly remember - there might have been squads he should have been in. But 'he averaged 50 in FC cricket, should have played more' ignores the fact our Test side was at immense strength through the period he dominated FC, and there...

Can a batting or bowling lineup without a worldclass/great level player be considered strong?

Theres probably a lot of **** hypothetical threads because there's a **** tournament on that grinds the rest of the cricketing world to a halt

And wow, that teal uniform is abominable

Henry is our best all-formats bowler. Lockie came real good in the home T20s series', especially the Australian one. Those guys are two of the first guys picked in T20, although Southee as TH said has been very good for a while now, too. I actually really wish Boult wasn't involved. I hate...

    ***Official*** IPL 2024

When the world turns into a cold, dark hell. Which honestly, in cricket, feels closer than I'd ever imagined.

    Rocky Flintoff Appreciation thread

Plays the pull shot exactly like his Dad, so good. Rocky Flintoff is such a wonderful name, too.

Watched the last couple of overs, that last run out struck me as incredibly stupid. A suicidal 2nd at 9 down, surely back O'Rourke to get off strike rather than an almost guaranteed run out straight to long on

Yeah this is exactly how I feel. I don't watch the IPL, I absolutely abhor it, but I see these scores popping up and it feels rotten. Feels dirty. If I know the BCCI (and I don't) I don't think they'd care a jot about listening to anyone, unless it's listening to the cash register continue to...

I don't actually believe Test cricket is dying out, there's no way only T20 can exist. That'd be the end of the game as we know it. There needs to be context, depth, statistical relevance, history etc in any sport to make it survive, and T20 ticks very few of those boxes. But yeah, your second...

Is a Cantabrian, is 'dependable', is no frills. The archetypal Stead cricketer.

Speaking of Neesham, he turned the result overnight - the chasing of 262 with 8 balls to go - in the IPL into a story (I think they call it) on insta, and it said 'the game is ruined' It reads as he is saying this seriously, and it's kinda how I feel.

T20 record has no bearing on IPL selection. I've heard it all now

Yeah OK, that's ODI cricket. His T20 record is terrible. He averages 16 from 55 innings. And has hardly bowled in the IPL. Is his ceiling high as a T20 batter? I don't reckon it is, unless he's prepared to sacrifice his longer form game. He's not a power player, he actually has a limited game...

He's not a T20 player. I'd suggest he might not even be in the IPL if he wasn't of Indian descent. That Cake Tin innings was a blip - he slog swept and pulled everything, on a small ground and got away with it. And it pisses me off that playing a format he's not suited to, is potentially going...

Get used to this - we're probably going to have a whole generation of them...this is the first generation (born around 2000 or so) who were raised with the IPL/T20, and grew up on wackedy do over solid technique.
