    Some perspective on Root

There's been much talk about the greatness of Root as he mounts up runs in 2021. I was wondering how...

New feature: Can't You Hear Me Knocking? Gaining Entry to the ICC Hall of Fame

Nice to see that Donald got in this year. But, as I had mentioned in the piece, as would be expected Murali, Dravid, Ponting and Tendulkar got in first time, but with at most two modern players inducted each year the list of also-rans grows longer and longer.

Charlie Davis - Trinidad and West Indies

As to Davis' Test value... In my pieces on Important Runs, I found that a total of 13 players in all of Test cricket history maintained an average above 60 in important innings (i.e. when his team was either behind or level). The list is shown below:- 111.60 Bradman 69.78 Headley 68.79 Kambli...

New feature: Zero to Sixty - the Next Hundred Batsman, from May to Gavaskar

Cheers Trundler - yeah, I did touch on that in the text. The runs scored when the match was ‘in the balance’ brought Graveney back up, but I think the ‘downhill skier’ label was applied to him because he wasn’t considered as getting it done when they were in the clarts and especially in Ashes Tests.
