this Harmison is very generous today.

seen only first 2 overs of the morning session, but the Harmison over must have been hilarious to watch. like in baseball when they throw 3 balls and then a fastball strike. interesting how they struggle with the line and length at the beginning of the day and/or innings on this pitch. i'd watch...

Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

i'm having a big time trying to translate cricket terms in Romanian. we have a much more verbose language, many senses of a word. "wicket" for instance would translate in 4-5 modes/different words or structures :)

    **Official** Afro-Asian Cup

this because in this kind of match - in all sports - individual performance comes first. when i saw a few balls in the Asian innings - 1st ODI - i said to myself "hey, it's gonna be a smashing" and turned off. later when I read that Pollock got 130 I wished i watched that - cause i remember his...

    Aussie - not Aussie

to all the supposed "race conspiration theories" - Windian bowlers are black :D funny when I go to see some video of Indian or Pakistani players on youtube and in 90% of cases there is a bash between posters. way too hot down the Himalayas really.

well he just waits for a good bash in september - the NZ vs. Romania game is anyway last in group and starts very early in the day. more of an exhibition really.

You know what really grinds my cricketing gears?

from what I've seen in the women's Twenty20 at Bangalore - watched a bit out of curiosity - girls don't seem to fear tight bowling :) and if you follow snooker you may remember the match between Paul Hunter and Michael Holt, when Holt said he would play the hell out at the table - out of respect...

Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

they should :) but i suppose some minds in world cricket administration are just happy with traditional audiences and - say - "money from hard stone" (i.e. from nothing).

the pitch was "hard-rock" :) and it showed. the windian bowlers had trouble with byes at the beginning, it seemed too bouncy even for them. when they got used it began to show, as at least two wickets came from crazy bouncers which got the batsmen shooting the ball high by reflex of defending...

some 85-6, if you ask me. given that we lost 61-7 to the Emerging Springboks :) at home.

Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

well I wonder if the ICC would have discounts on TV rights for new, first-time broadcasts in "virgin" countries. this to link with your last line. I try to figure out what it takes to bring cricket in a new territory - in the media at least - and what would be my chances for a strong case when...

    Football Style Cricket Leagues?

i guess it will work only in 20/20 format and with specialised players - totally another thing that the official touring calendar. this considering financing the team (for a league format you have a lot of travelling), making good crowds at affordable costs/ticket and so on. The sorts of what is...

Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

bad luck for the NRK. i think one should wait for a really good event (a series between Australia, England or India, any 2 of the three) to make it a start. A world-cup competition is perfect too. and i guess much of the commentary has to focus - in first-time broadcasts - on cricket stories...

you name it :D partnership over, Prior out for 40, spicy performance though, insane bouncer to dismiss him

sometimes i hate to be right... but the batsmen dominated the not-so-varied bowling after tea. or maybe the tea was too warm for the cold Manchester weather to the Windians :)

    T20IBS Thread

just an idea - the bat vs. ball challenge would be more balanced in 20/20 if you cut down the number of wickets - say, to 6 or even 5. this would make the batsmen more cautious and give more motivation to the bowlers.

Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

i managed to watch much of the World Cup online, by streams. supported new zealand :D well, semifinals and final should be a minimum, super 8's a miracle if someone is willing to take the risk. my idea was to have an experienced broadcaster at my side, who knows something about the game but not...

back to cricket :) still i feel that the Windies lack variety in their bowling - if they keep it going as it goes i don't see them winning the Test. the English batsmen might as well get accustomed to their style. bouncers however are cool to watch :D
