Did you see the super slo-mo closeup replay though? It clearly showed the deviation from bat to pad.

There was a fairly distinct double-noise, too. Ponting was very lucky.

Super slo-mo leaves no room for doubt.

I thought it was out. At first I thought Bowden might have been wondering whether it carried, but then I saw the replay and there's absolutely no question of that. The side on replay made it hard to tell, but I thought the front on clarified it.

On a more positive note, Rudi got those two LBW calls absolutely right. :p

Firstly, the rain did not contribute to Langer getting out, as much as playing a poor shot to a decent faster ball outside off-stump. However, the rain had been coming down for some time, and it would have suited us (ie it would have been good fortune) if they'd have come off earlier in the...

About to get started again - 47 overs left in the day if there's no more rain. :)

Oh can it, Eddie. Going off yesterday for the light was clearly the Aussie team's fault, and I'm entitled to express my frustration over the rain decision - it is frustrating, but it doesn't mean I'm accusing the umpires of impropriety. And you've done plenty of whining yourself.

Fair enough. :) I guess I was thinking in terms of a legitimate target (in the sense of something Australia would actually consider attempting) being set. If they throw them in for the last session on the last day over 300 behind though, it'd be more about rubbing their nose in the dirt...

I reckon he's shown more than enough this summer to prove his positive attitude (including enforcing the follow-on in the last test) - but there's a difference between showing a positive attitude and irresponsible madness. People are often too hard on the concept of a team batting another one...

I don't know why Vaughan would do that though - the consequences of him messing this up are far greater than a few grumblers annoyed that he didn't go for the big win. Why muck around inviting fate when you can make the Ashes safe?

If we lose the rest of today - we're around 200 down with six sessions to play. We're going to use the best of two of those to draw level. It's very hard to see us having the time to chase down whatever England make on top of that, should we a) make it to their total and b) declare at that...

Yeah, that was a PY special. *cries* It is frustrating though, when the umps decide to wait until the end of an over when they've decided the conditions are too wet to play on.

Sure, so long as you're 80 and you've found nothing on TV really hits the spot since "Murder She Wrote" got the axe.

Good on you, JL - great to see him come good here, and 7000 runs in tests too. I had hoped for big things from him at the start of the series, and things didn't quite work out, but this could end up being a very important innings.

Really? Abbott just looks so panicky throughout to me, and I spend half the time cringing - this week, he was drenched in panicky sweat. I think I've seen funnier episodes of "Diagnosis Murder".

You're not wrong, and now, after being off the ground for 40 minutes (and back on for about 5), it sounds like it's starting to rain again. :(
