    Wives and Kids on Tour

LOL, it's all a bit silly, and I think McGrath said as much - and if the experienced, successful Aussie team that arrived for the Ashes wasn't sufficiently "bonded" as an outfit, I don't know what could have possibly been done. The only downfall of having the family on tour is that it might get...

    The Greats

Well, gospel means "unquestionably true", and I don't think we're gonna get there with this thread, mate, even if I agreed with every pick. Don't set your hopes too high. On another note, regarding the Kallis vote, didn't he need to be seconded and thirded to be considered? I guess those guys...

    The Greats

Meh, this is all turning out too random for me. I guess I can stomach Steve Waugh and Lillee not making the cut (although I would have called them both greats), but Laxman's 281 being passed over??? Sheesh. We probably needed to define, for the purposes of the thread, what "great" meant...

Lillee. And not overrated, either. Rated juuuuuuuust right. 8-)

Forget about the no votes for Gilchrist, what about all the no votes for Waugh... :dontgetit (Actually, I anguished over Gilchrist the most in this list, although I love him as a player.) Anyhow... Ashes no Laxman's 281 yes Imran Khan yes G.D.McGrath yes A.C.Gilchrist yes S.R.Waugh yes...

Biggest six hitters outside the subcontinent

Just as a side point, Klusener certainly hit some big sixes, but I sometimes felt he hit some of his fours twice as hard - they went like bullets. I don't know if I've ever seen anybody hit the ball so hard along the ground.

    Caption this: Bracken

Bracken's greatest hurdle was motivation - and a swift, hard kick to the janglies at the start of his spell usually worked a treat. He didn't shy away from this remedy - in fact, he welcomed it.

Bracken, to his horror, discovered why Warne's Advanced Hair cream was prescription only.

    The Greats

*thirded* Too hard to think up all the great players/performances I can think of, but I'll nominate (I haven't seen it mentioned yet) Jim Laker's 19 wickets vs Australia at Old Trafford in 1956. I don't think you need to have seen that to appreciate what an amazing achievement it was. Anyhow...

    Favourite Matches of all Time

Oh yeah, how could I forget that one... I think it's still the tightest victory in a test, ever. I never felt like we were going to win that game, and then suddenly, when it looked like we actually would, it got snatched away (shades of a more recent match, and in similar circumstances, too)...

    Favourite Matches of all Time

These are probably my favorite tests, off the top of my head: West Indies vs Australia at Kingston, 1995 The game where Australia stopped WI's unbeaten series record and became unofficial world champions. Steve Waugh played one of his greatest innings (if not the greatest) and endured a...

    Greatest Fast Bowler Ever

Haha, I think that was a distortion of the story - I think I read somewhere that the drummer had headphones on and when he asked the singer for the title of the track, he misheard what he said, and it stuck. BTW, I think Isolater probably meant "In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida" being Iron Butterfly's only...

    How important are the coaches?

Are we just talking about the international coaches, ie Chappell, Buchanan, Woolmer, etc? I guess the answer varies. In the case of a young team (particularly a young captain), I think they can be extremely valuable. They can also carry a bunch of non match-day responsibilities that allow a...

Brett Lee Says he will bowl line and length from now on.

^ Yeah, I read that article in The Age sometime this morning. I don't totally understand what Ponting is saying though. Because obviously, one would have to ask, what's the main difference then between how Lee was bowling yesterday, and how Lee has been bowling in tests over the last few...

A lot of Australians probably developed a soft spot for Samuels after he showed some admirable grit (and a fair degree of talent) back in the 2001 tour - Steve Waugh was definitely impressed by what he saw, too. Funnily enough, I think I remember reading somewhere that the player Samuels most...

"Similar" is different to "alike in all respects" though - as long as you're just comparing specific aspects that you find similar (for example, Sachin Tendulkar and the South African cricket team are hardly alike, but they are similar in that they both choke when the heat is on. :p). I...
