    Problems accessing CW

I'm highly unconvinced that it's solely telstra's problem. If roseboy is also having problems it makes it even less likely. BTW, I just had half an hour's downtime about half an hour ago - and the same was true when I tried to access via proxify. I also after a while got a mySQL database...

Wasim says ICC is run by whites

I don't really think it matters that much - stating that these organizations were controlled by a white heirarchy serving predominantly white interests over the vast majority of the twentieth century wouldn't be that controversial a statement, really. Anyhow, you're right, it's a stupid...

Wasim says ICC is run by whites

I would have thought the reference was more alluding to the "Imperial Cricket Conference", which goes back to 1909. (Before they became the "International Cricket Conference" in the 60's, and later, the "International Cricket Council".)

It was about ODIs (and Clark is at least getting decent figures in the matches he's played), but as to tests: I'm not that cynical, and I think of myself as an optimist. So, Stuart MacGill and Jason Gillespie. :p I'm not saying that we have a clutch of "international ready" players - but...

Really? Not to insult our Kiwi friends (they're all wonderful people), but I'd have thought New Zealand, minnows aside, would be one of the teams with the least depth.

It's amazing that you have this perception of Lawry. If anything, he has an overriding habit of barracking for the underdog - he annoys the crap out of me personally, but I certainly wouldn't describe him as biased towards Australia. Certainly not in comparison to the other Aussie commentators...

Wasim says ICC is run by whites

Is he? Genuine question. I think his comments are inaccurate. If he was talking historically I might give the comments more leeway, but he doesn't make any such distinctions (so, as a result, I think C_C is being FAR too generous). It smacks of a vague, populist comment to me. Perhaps he...

Not in this conversation. ClownSymonds just suggested that although Australia may have had the best bowling depth in the world, it wasn't THAT much - to which Marc replied that indications were that they didn't have "the depth". I still don't know how that makes my point misleading though. I'm...

That's an interesting point. They're of course noticably weakened if you take out the top two or three bowlers in the country, but that's true of all teams. Out of curiosity, how many nations would you say have a greater bowling depth than Australia?

Who is the best Umpire ATM ?

I think Rudi is downright awful. I'd only have Bucknor behind him, and I think they're both a class below the rest of the guys on the panel at the moment. A lot of bad calls are tight calls. Naturally they often get exaggerated to "terrible calls", but Rudi frequently makes some of the worst...

Who is the best Umpire ATM ?

Which umpires have you seen that don't make poor decisions?

Not quite his debut, but it must have felt like one, after playing so little part in his previous games. I've been confused by how Ponting's treated him up to this point, because so far his selection has had a real fifth wheel feel to it.

Who is the best Umpire ATM ?

There may be quite a few votes using that formula in this poll. :) I'll go for Dar. And I think Bowden is decent. Er, yeah...

35 Test Hundreds for Sachin Tendulkar !

Great stuff from Tendulkar. I only looked in briefly at cricinfo earlier, and it looked like he was giving Murali a bit of a pasting.

    why do people watch ODIs?

Wasn't your point that it was the defensive nature of the game (and I realise you were emphasising the fielding side) that was the biggest inhibiter to excitement? That's generally at it's worst (on both sides) in the overs between the first fifteen and the last 10. Unfortunately there's a...

how good did Vaughan used to be?

Regardless of how dodgy the ICC rankings are (are they really any more dodgy than any other player ranking system?), I don't think it was that controversial (or uncommon, for that matter) that Vaughan was talked about as the number one player in the world around that time. Didn't he make around...

Even weirder is that he has something of a reputation for being a bowler at the death for Victoria, but if you listened to some of the comments resulting from this (one) match, he's completely inappropriate for that role, despite actually bowling an excellent final over of the innings in the...

Hahahaha! (I'm hoping the humor was intentional.) I've disagreed with the selectors a few times lately, but I think their strategy in terms of this series is a good idea. Why not? Obviously the Lee thing was out of their control though.

Personally, I don't really see why pointing out that it was a substantially inexperienced Aussie bowling lineup makes somebody necessarily guilty of sour grapes, although it's obvious that some people in the thread could do with a hanky. Everybody's talking about the attack without McGrath, but...

    Who's number 2 ?

As far as I know, India are only one point behind England at this moment, and they will take the official number 2 position if they can beat Sri Lanka 2-0. I think if they win by one test, they'll be equal on points. Of course, then they have to fend off Pakistan away, before a likely battle...
