Format ideas for future World Cups.

Bermuda is a minnow, yes. Sri Lanka isn't. Implying that the first two games were against minnows ? If a team loses to 2 minnow nations, they're definitely unworthy, but that is hardly the case under consideration. India had two test sides in their group, didn't they? 8-)

Maybe, but its the concept of the thing that is being missed big time here. The earlier format allowed for poor starts, the current one doesn't. There are teams that start off with a bang and end poorly, and there are teams that traditionally start off slow and gradually get into rhythm. The...

Gee, and there I was thinking Bangladesh was a Test side. And good job comparing this to the FIFA World cup (a worse format. Atleast the ICC decided to go for a Super 8 stage. The FIFA WC goes straight into knockout mode). You can spout that mumbo jumbo all you want, the fact is Australia would...

I guess asking for a few from a great player was too much

Just because India and Pakistan are out doesn't mean people have no right to criticise the poor format. If your main argument against those cricticising the format is 'sour grapes', its a pretty poor one. The benefit of the earlier format was that traditionally stronger teams had a chance to...

ICC targets YouTube World Cup clips

So off the mark there. You get all the juicy bits on Youtube. I'm pretty sure you're more likely to find clips of say Gibbs hitting six sixes in an over than ones of Kallis or Ganguly defending ball after ball. And it doesn't matter if its live or not. The rights bought by the respective...

Group B - Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Bermuda

Correction: Those 3 got India to a World Cup final. The bowlers screwed it up. Try again.

ICC targets YouTube World Cup clips

I can't afford many things. I do without them. This isn't an issue of merely telecast rights. Its questioning basic economic models and encouraging illegal activities. Something this site could get into trouble for, considering it seems to be one of the more prominent cricket related ones...

ICC targets YouTube World Cup clips

This is exactly the logic used by software pirates. "Hey, we give the young 'uns a taste of the software for a nominal fee, and this actually benefits the big companies by preparing a consumer base for their products in future. We're social benefactors." There is no guarantee a guy catching a...

No it isn't. If anything it makes it more of a lottery compared to the previous formats.

Too bad you're not the one who paid for the exclusive telecast rights. 8-)

Yes, players like Botham, Donald, Waqar, Hadlee have obviously had useless careers.

Are there further examples of how Tendulkar saw India through in similar vital knockout games ?

To be honest, it would only have worked if South Africa were playing Iran, not Australia

Must be the heat, but all that just went over my head :p The way I see it, in a best case scenario (from a minnow point of view), all they have to do to qualify for the next round is to win 2 games - 1 vs fellow minnow, and 1 vs strong team. In the 2003 World Cup, again considering a best case...

Headlines You Want To See During The WC

Pakistan and India arrange for ODI series next week on the sidelines of the World Cup. Plans to involve associate nations Afghanistan and Nepal in quadrilateral series met with vehement protests from nervous Pakistani and Indian cricket stars.

    Post Mortem: India

The difference is that Karthik has actually displayed a propensity for scoring useful runs outside the subcontinent, Dhoni hasn't.

I wouldn't qualify a 65 in 102 balls as a particularly good knock, particularly when Harbhajan scores 37 in 60 and Lara 40 in 48, but passable for the desperate enough, I guess. The reason it has to be outside the subcontinent is because of the tigers at home - lambs abroad syndrome.
