    ICC Sim League VIII

Zoysa's and Jayasuriya's "overs bowled" and "balls bowled" are inconsistent. (Checking back I think the "overs" figures are right, which means their economies & strike rates aren't).

The best pure wicketkeeper of all time

It's Jim Laker, and that's about as excited as he ever got.

Not sure; Statsguru's list of M players starts with McAlister and after all the Mc and Mac players the next is Madan Lal, so it's probably a moot point. Might also be worth checking how they're listed if you pick a player with (e.g.) a "de" or "van" in their name.

Since I don't think that's obvious, and it didn't affect my pick, do you want to change it?

Prompted by NUFAN's pick: a reminder that selections here are in reverse order of names as listed in Cricinfo; they list all the "Mac/Mc" players together before the other M's, so after picking (say) Glenn McGrath, you can't then pick (say) Devon Malcolm.

The best pure wicketkeeper of all time

In "Cricket Crisis" Fingleton (plus unnamed colleague) pick Jock Cameron ahead of Oldfield, Ames and Duckworth as their keeper in a World XI of players they had played with and against, though his batting was partly the reason for that; but they do mention that Oldfield struggled when keeping to...

The best pure wicketkeeper of all time

What proportion of the time was he keeping to O'Reilly and Grimmett? When the SA attack was basically a quartet of leg-spinners before WW1, Percy Sherwell took 16 stumpings and 20 catches in 13 Tests.

Why aren't there more spinner all rounders?

AIUI Greig was mainly a medium-pace bowler who occasionally bowled off-spin (most notably in the WI in 1973-4). I happened to read a few pages of Sobers' autobiography today, and he describes Greig's bowling there as "off-cutters" and suggests that he should have tried them more often.

Simple rule: pick your players in reverse alphabetical order, as listed in Statsguru. (So "Zulqarnain Haider" or "Billy Zulch" would be a very flexible first pick; "Aamer Malik" or "Kyle Abbott" less so). Why reverse? Because I'm removing the usual "no Bradman" rule - you can pick him as soon...

Why aren't there more spinner all rounders?

FWIW (probably not much): according to Statsguru if you take all players batting at 7 or lower, as "not designated wicket-keeper" - filtered on "spin bowlers", the batting average is 18.38 - filtered on "pace bowlers", the batting average is 15.65
