    The Ashes Article Thread

Indeed. Looking forward to more Gideon Haigh in the Guardian, assuming he's still scribing for them, very good writer and an Aussie who supports England  .

The "No-Loyalty" XI for the Gabba

I think we, but KP especially, will take Watto to the cleaners. He has to play though, best AR prospect for years and he looks like Corey Feldman.

The Premiership vs La Liga & the Trials of the English & Spanish national sides.

Spurs  I see the odd La Liga game and the defences look awful, half-decent strikers scoring at will e.g Forlan, but this does mean the games are good to watch. In the Prem even Chelsea and Arsenal struggle to actually hammer sides regularly, it's very competitive and above La Liga for me.

Should Langer be dropped for Jaques?

I think he'll be your best bat after Drunky and prove you wrong. Tbh I think he deserves his swansong anyway, and if he does fail after two tests then yeah call up Pip Jaques.

***Official*** 1st Test at The Gabba

I'm not sure I want my lanky fast bowler being anything other than a slogger, call me old fashioned. Shame it's looking like Monty won't make it, with Felchers's obsession with runs from his spinner; what with the pathetic treatment of Read (they're both mediocre with the bat but Jones had...

Still sticking with Tres as top catcher then.

    Trescothick out of Ashes

Perhaps he's finding it difficult to come to terms with and decided to do the stiff upper lip job and plug on, hoping to play his way out of the problem, and failed. Nobody is perfect and given some of the attitudes around sport, and on this thread too actually, it's not surprising he might have...

    Trescothick out of Ashes

Bit harsh Steds, old bean. Clinical depression, bi-polar or whatever it is he has is pretty unpredictable, not to mention quite unnerving to get late on-ish in life, so not really surprising they've made a bit of a horlicks of things.

Is it still 1954 where you live Poker Boy? Good grief.

    Trescothick out of Ashes

Having a lot of experienced batters didn't particularly help in the past, and Mick had a purple patch there last time really anyway, I doubt many would have been expecting hundred after hundred again.

    Trescothick out of Ashes

The respect of your peers and a tube of KY jelly.

    Trescothick out of Ashes

Yeah I've already had to go and review it. Cheers Tres! 8-) :)

    Trescothick out of Ashes

Tbh I think you're putting McGrath on a pedestal he can't climb up to, Tres is the coolest and best at handling sledging in our ranks and I seriously doubt anything McGrath could say will have had any effect on this decision.

    Prediction Thread

Hmmmm. Oh well, errrm, will go with Strauss for top catcher then.

    Trescothick out of Ashes

The official line remains a stress-related illness, but I agree it sounds like a prolonged depression, or as Alan Partridge would have it he's "clinically fed up". Quite how he managed to convince the docs and himself that he'd recovered is a mystery, unless he counts chipping the ball on to a...

    Trescothick out of Ashes

    Wow, super merginess shenanigans.

    Trescothick out of Ashes

Trescothick out of Ashes. Breaking news and no details yet. Knowing him he probably feels he's not up to it and it's best to get someone in early who is. Rather sad all this. Strauss and Cook to open Shah to be called as back-up I'd venture.

    Gayle's Tour Diary

I was thinking more doing the bars and clubs rather than hiding in a shed imbibing the local moonshine :)

    ***Official*** Tour Games

From the interview with CMJ on the beeb yes, he hooked happily, was lucky with one top edge early on but then went mad without danger.
