I want to speed up my bowling

I doubt it's to do with your weight. My advice would be to video yourself bowling to see what causes it. It's quite a unique problem to have! Do you wear spikes when you bowl?

    Run Up

Yes, but a very different one to what you'd expect. Every cricketer would benefit from correct weight training, but it's most important for bowlers. The reason is because when you bowl using your run-up, a series of 'stretch-reflexes' occur, where elastic energy is stored in your muscles when...

I want to speed up my bowling

Faisal if you went over on your heel I would suggest doing 'Farmer's Walks'. Pick up two heavy dumbbells and walk until you cannot walk anymore. Repeat three times after cricket training. I think they're an excellent excersise.

I'd agree with all of that, apart from the strong shoulder bit.

    Bowling Faster...

I must seem like a bit of a prat as I keep on harping on about this, but I can't agree. Here's a good analogy that I got straight out of 'The complete book of throws': 'In extremely simple terms: the human body is like a car. The muscles that make the action happen are the gas while those...

    Run Up

I really don't think that turning side-on quickly has anything to do with it. Why would it? Where's the physics behind that? I'll reiterate: the real genuine quick guys don't muscle the ball down the pitch, they use the conservation of momentum. Using a quick rotation of the shoulders, bounding...

    Run Up

I would like to explain these principles and how to teach them, but I'm sure you understand that this is a business to me. Anyone could read this and take my ideas and I wouldn't benefit at all.

By using medicine balls. Please feel free to read what was a undergraduate project, but I've moved far far forward since creating that model. I'm not ashamed of it though, since it has allowed me to get to where I am today. My main problem with Pont is this: Pont learnt this mechanics from...

    Run Up

Neil, how do you then ensure that your drills teach correct mechanics? It's great to hear that your under 8s did well, but there are many other factors affecting what you've described. I don't for one second doubt that Pont's teaching will make bowlers get quicker, but he teaches you to bowl...

    Run Up

No, I'm a mathematician first, then a cricket coach with a very keen interest in the mechanics of fast bowling. Through extensive research, I really do think I can tell you why the quick guys were quick, and why the medium pacers could never get it right. From my work, I seriously believe that...

    Run Up

Okay, I personally have a big problem with Pont's work, mainly through email conversations I've had with him. He himself has admitted that Fast Bowler's Bible is not the complete picture. Noticed how there's no drills to teach the stuff in the book? How do you teach his work to young kids? I...

    Mate whats the prob?

Neil, please dont' be insulted by this, but what do you think contributes to pace?

    My action

I think you have two options to tailenders: give the ball crazy amounts of flight or ball quicker and flatter ('darts')
  15. Tom M

    My action

Two pieces of advice: if they're blocking you, what's the problem? You're not going for runs, eventually batsmen will get fed up and go for the big swing. If you get bored of batsmen blocking you, having a think about working on a slightly quicker, flatter ball or a much quicker arm ball. Both...

    Run Up

Can't say I agree with you Neil, depending on your action the run-up can be one of the most important things. However, due to the terrible standard of bowling coaching around the world, I doubt many people know when a run-up is important or not. To the OP: get someone to check if your front leg...

    Jakes pre season cricket log

I don't understand why you're training like a bodybuilder. I suggest you go to www.rosstraining.com, he'll explain about sports specific training. Weight training is a very important part of training for cricket, but training like a bodybuilder will not help your cricket. If you want more...

I want to speed up my bowling

No, you don't necessarily have to run in really really fast, but I would not recommend generating pace using muscle. I'm not saying it's impossible, but if you really really want to bowl quick you've got to be a bit smarter than that. Here's some examples: when you do a power clean, you...

    Run Up

Practise More. I don't like marking run-ups with tape measures becuase you never play the same game twice. By that I mean from one game to the next you'll feel more/less tired/angry/excited/happy/horny than the last. Just bowl in the nets more and it'll sort itself out.

I want to speed up my bowling

If you're a side-on bowler, this will help Bowling is all about transferring energy. If you really want to bowl quick, I suggest you practice running in quick, keeping your momentum going when your back foot lands by bending the knee and then keep your front leg straight when it lands. Don't...
