    He tried to use his national aspirations in Dunedin District Court this week to avoid a conviction for drink driving. Judge did not agree. Fined $500 + costs, and banned from driving for six months. Maybe the judge checked his NZ u19 average and scoffed at his chances.

    This is not the case in NZ (and to a lesser extent, Australia). Ed has been a part-owner in a group 2 winner in NZ, and two of NZ's best mares recently - Melody Belle (13 Group 1 wins, off the top of my head) and Avantage - were both owned by syndicates with plenty of regular folk in the ownership.

    Likewise in NZ - club rugby gets underway in mid-to-late March, depending on the area. In smaller areas, there are only so many cricketers going around, and plenty of them will be into their winter codes.
