Top ten greatest bowlers and batsmen of all time

Exactly. I remember watching matches back then when the advertising boards were the boundary, not some rope 6 meters in.

Afer that spell from Shami, I thought ok, India might have a sniff if their batsmen grow a spine...yet again they are crumbling in the 4th innings. SA might even get them for less than a 100.

Grand's century last year in tests was thrilling. It was the first time I thought of him as a genuine, possible world beater. Did it again in his first match back against a very good side. Guy may be going places.

Now that would be a good pick for an international side. Dravid was always a cool, intelligent head and whenever I hear him speak on cricket, he clearly knows what he is talking about. Maybe England should snap him up as batting coach.

    Draft idea: Silent auction

    In, this seems very interesting.

I would rank Tendulkar higher than Ponting but there isn't a whole lot between the two (or Lara who I'd rate just below those two). As for Viv, he already had 10+ years behind him by the time the late 80s rolled around but even then, he was very good throughout. Yes he wasn't going to hit the...

They're all Kohli's yes men...and Kohli is Dhoni's yes man in the limited overs side of things haha

What is this malarkey? In the age of day/night tests, they can't turn on the lights to extend play. 2 hours of cricket were lost today. Embarrassing for a modern sport...but handy for the saffers who need some time to get their heads straight.

Just the start India needed. But look at where the ball pitched, the batsman jumped, got hit on the knee roll and it was still hitting the wicket. That is a slow wicket. Ashwin should enjoy it though.

    An English Gentleman

A very good batsman, according to all those that watched him, including my father and uncles. His captaincy is also important and he seemed to be a man who enjoyed the extra responsibility. From what little I have seen of him, he looks to be an astute, technically impressive batsman but his...

Your problem is I am not hyping an innings which was good but not remarkable. Any top batsman should be scoring on these pitches, in conditions with no swing. Kohli did not look good just last week in conditions which were only slightly off for batsmen, and looked lost in his own some series...

Australia's Future - The Real Tests

Both series have been talked about. Pakistan might have been mentioned a bit more simply because Australia looked horrible in the UAE last time and have recently lost to Bang in Asia. They have a far better history in SA but yes, it is a terrific series, which is why I mentioned both.

An entire career can not be judged on a player's decline. Yes it should be taken into account but it should not count more than how that guy played at his peak. Viv was, along with Khan and Hadlee, imho anyway, the standout cricketers of the 80s. Wasim, Waqar, Tendulkar and Lara were the...

Mac was a terrific captain (taught Cook a few things over here) and a very good batsman. He did certainly lead the NZ side I've seen.

Pandya's innings was very disappointing. He failed to play his natural game and got bogged down, ball after ball and cost India time and runs. He should either hit out or get out really. His job is to rattle the bowlers, not hunker down like Cook. Anyway, decent century from Kohli on a pitch I...

Australia's Future - The Real Tests

It will be a contest, or at least I hope it will. The more we talk about it, the more I want the current appetiser to be over so we can get to the main course.

Australia's Future - The Real Tests

Maharaj is good but it's not just numbers. Lyon has more to his game, as do Ashwin and Herath. That will come with experience of course. He will be a factor when Aus play against him, I think Khawaja, Warner and the Marsh bros could be ripe for the taking.

As predicted, Kohli gets runs in helpful conditions and pitch. It is far too predictable, if only another batsman sticks around, Kohli can get a brisk 150 and put India in control. Pandya is a real fighter and can strike it, I believe he is or should be, the guy to do it.

    Smith v Ponting

Cricket is not just played in the test format BUT even if we're talking about just one format, be it tests, Ponting is still better. Smith may end up with a better career but that is some 10 years and many, many tests down the line. As of now, he is not better.

I stopped reading at "ICC ratings". For future reference, none of that rubbish interests me nor should it interest anyone in the habit of actually watching cricket.
