Establishing the best decade for cricket: Finding the ATG XI from 12 decades of test cricket - then having a KO tourney to decide the best

I don't follow; you can have multiple players and dravid has 3000 runs at 50 he should be a lock?

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current) - Updated

Cricket is a team sport with a myriad of difficult conditions complicating comparisons. Individual statistics, while the most important metric isn't the only metric to measure a player. People on this website forget that. If this were an individual sport like tennis, sure statistics>all.

Establishing the best decade for cricket: Finding the ATG XI from 12 decades of test cricket - then having a KO tourney to decide the best

90s should win. By far the best bowling 3/5 best fast bowlers ever (Ambrose, McG, Akram), 2/2 greatest spinners ever (Warne, Murali), best wicketkeeper ever (Gilchrist), 2/5 best bats ever (Lara/Tendulkar). Opening is weak but: Anwar [???] Dravid Tendulkar Lara Waugh Gilchrist Warne McGrath...

    Wisden on Murali's Action

To be CRYSTAL clear - prior to 2004 every bowler including mcgrath chucked. You realize this right? Every bowler extended elbows >10 degrees.

Where do you rate Jasprit Bumrah among Asian fast bowlers (Tests)?

Ravi ashwin is an ATG and has won india more series than wasim or waqar evidenced by his 8 MotS vs 7 and 5 respectively
  6. M

    Joe Root is number one

Only smith is worthy of being compared to lara and tendulkar. He may eclipse them if he maintains his form. Kohli can't even compare to dravid.

Who was the better bowler: Glenn Mcgrath or Wasim Akram?

I just want to point out that if akram had 10-15 fewer dropped catches his average would be in the low 22 to high 21 and all of a sudden he would be as good as McGrath. There’s a reason all the contemporaries say what they say

Who was the better bowler: Glenn Mcgrath or Wasim Akram?

agreed. Conditions native to the subcontinent can never be proper cricket conditions. Only those native to England and australia (and sometimes South Africa and NZ)

Who was the better bowler: Glenn Mcgrath or Wasim Akram?

People aren’t appreciating playing for a atg batting side and what that will do for your bowling. Or Australian pitches or better fielding side. Even 10-15 extra catches can drop bowling average a full run. Not much to choose between the two IMO. I actually play cricket at a competitive level...

Top 10 Greatest Fast Bowlers of All Time in Tests?

nope. What if one bowler had worse fitness or his action expends significant energy and he is unable to bowl as much (eg how spinners can bowl more)
  12. M

    Warne v McGrath

You cannot compare a spin and fast bowler on traditional stats like bowling average. A spin bowler can bowl nearly 2x the overs because of the economy of action and so ends up taking far more wickets at a slightly higher average. Who is more likely to win you the match in that case? apples and...

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current)

Not sure I agree. You can't say a whole lot B could have still average 50 given it took bowlers 50 runs each to get him out the other 80 times... Why is A any better either?

Cricketweb decides the greatest bowler ever in a 64 player bracket. Contest thread.

The strawman seems to have distracted too much from the argument, which at the most fundamental level is that the spinners energy conserving action allows him to bowl a lot more and take ~30% more wickets per match.

Cricketweb decides the greatest bowler ever in a 64 player bracket. Contest thread.

That's the point. A fast bowler can bowl at best half to 2/3rds the overs a spinner can bowl before getting tired and his effectiveness dropping off. You run the risk of overbowling and injury and shortening careers. The spinners main advantage is his runup and delivery requires far less effort...

Does Umpire's Call need to go?

No machine "knows" what it's doing. Even the most advanced current AI is responding to preset parameters/algorithms. Until there is an AI that can change it's root programming unprompted, no machine "knows" what it's doing. A study should be conducted using x thousand number of deliveries from...

LOL I hope that was sarcasm.

    Philander, Ashwin and George Lohmann

ashwin 92 in 16 and still batting at 37. Great player and an absolute star at home.
  19. M

    Sachin Tendulkar's 146 @ Cape Town v Michael Clarke's 151 @ Cape Town

He's definitely better than jayawardene (and after these last few series' even sehwag) but I agree for the most part.

Food for thought for those who think India was never among the top 4

that would have been a win if we had any balls at all.
