You should have seen the alternatives.

Rutherford was so talented but, yeah, he underwhelmed on the whole. I always felt he deserved his place in the side, though.

But, he wasn't obviously class. Being an attractive stroke maker didn't make him class; numbers would have done that. But he didn't put them on the board. At no point was he demanding selection by tearing it up domestically. He was a project. Saying that, I'm not sure he belongs in this thread.

If by Reece Witherspoon, you actually mean an Oompa Loompa, then yes.

Vincent was such a golden boy/project of NZC. On a personal level, I like the guy, but as a cricketer he was given the red carpet treatment by the selectors, and **** knows why.

    2023–24 NZ women's summer

I'm not sure the wpl Eng players are returning for the T20 series. I think the ODIs only. How does Izzy Gaze continue to get selected? She doesn't even get runs at domestic level.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Your last para sums up the issues. The evidence shows that no matter how poorly one initially takes to a task (comparable to someone who picks it up quicker), practice - the right type - more than makes up for that difference over time. But, as I'm sure everyone will attest, being bottom of the...

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

The Mercantile league? Though I don't even know if that's still a thing. But, there were always handy players knocking round in that league.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

yep. Starting early and practicing the right things are worth a lot more in the long run than any natural talent. So being exposed to something as a kid - and by a parent who knows what they are doing - is a big advantage.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

This is interesting (to me, at least), as I've just finished a book called Peak, which argues against natural talent. And puts most of it down to practice.

I've heard Severin's name bandied round the Welly traps for years. Wouldn't be surprised if he moved as a 10yo.

Just a pity that wicket was Mariu. Not sure why he wasn't opening, though.

Why is Nicholls opening? A Stead directive?

*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

A ridiculous situation when we are carrying passengers among the bowling attack And it's not like it wasn't predicted by everyone bar Wells and BedheadStead. Sort it out, clowns. As a NZ fan, a fair amount of fatalism leading into today. We should win. But it's us. And it's Australia. Wish I...

Mocking another man for crying is just machismo crap. Smith went up in my estimation with his genuine reaction, not down. People - men especially - giving him grief can **** right off.

I don't think Stead will adapt and Wells has had an ominous start where any team changes are forced ones only. Depressing. However, like you, I hope the success of O'Rourke and relative success of Sears shows them that talent under 32 does exist.
