Everyone barring Latham and Williamson has a better chance of surviving by playing shots (within reason).

Don't really agree. Both Shreyas Iyer and Will Young scored runs by punishing the bad balls. Look I don't think we could have chased this anyway but I think it would have been good to put the bowlers under some pressure, particularly in the first innings but also e.g. from Ross Taylor today...

Ross was never going to be capable of blocking things out. Really would have been nice to put the bowlers under even a modicum of pressure.

Maybe he'd be more confident if he had his box

Jadeja has been crap, would like to punish the poor bowling. Sure block out Ajaz and Ashwin, whatever.

Would kill for a 48 (60) from Rossco here

That's rough for Latham. Had played well. Taylor will be interesting here.

Ishant now bowling wide of off stump. Negative tactics. Probably a good sign for NZ.

Well played Latham. Would like for us to put India under a bit of pressure here. Maybe pushing for the win is a bit unrealistic, but at least getting them sweating a bit would give us a bit of an edge going into the second test.

He's definitely going through a dip at the moment. Doesn't appear to have that same thirst for runs that he's known for.

I can't understand it. Who goes to the cricket to blow on a vuvuzela? so weird.

It's not just that but this is a test match they can set whatever fields they like and bowl wide of off stump etc.

I think that's a bit naive, and I think you're unlikely to get a definitive diagnosis for most minor muscular injuries. With neck injuries we rule out anything serious - i.e. anything to the spinal column or any potential fracture with neurological features. Once this stuff is ruled out, we...

Yeah but that should just be a case of **** happens. "Injuries" is too nebulous term to just automatically allow substitutions for it. The Saha injury is "stiff neck". Well ****, I get that walking down the street on a summer's day.

For actual concussions then I am in support of substitutions. There's a big difference between a traumatic brain injury and a regular sporting injury like a pulled hamstring or whatever. For a start, you can't really train or be fit enough to prevent concussions (well you could do some crazy...

I find it interesting when a team suffers an injury and have to go through the adversity of e.g. using a part time keeper, being a bowler short etc etc. It's part of the difficulties of a 5 day test. Not to mention that fitness is also part of a 5 day test and hence why it's a major risk to...

I just don't think it should be allowed in general. The whole point of selecting a test XI is that you have to balance between the specialist skills of bowling, batting and fielding. Allrounders are useful. Keepers who can bat are now also extremely common. I think the new sub fielder rules...
