Haha Fiery, I'd forgotten about him. I remember him arguing that Jacob Oram was a better cricketer in all formats than Shane Watson, and that Brett Lee should be banned because he bowled beamers on purpose. Bless his departed soul.

I think the "god mode" includes the last year and a bit of domestic cricket as well where he was dominant. He just went from being a good but not amazing domestic batsman to a very, very good one later in his career. Similar to Hussey really, just a bit later on.

Don't think so, Hussey had a legitimately significant career in multiple formats. Scored more test runs than Michael Slater and Adam Gilchrist. But certainly one of the best late career debutants ever.

203* needed for him to appear on this list among all the Bradman's: HowSTAT! Test Cricket - Highest Average after Playing X Innings

LOL at that misunderstanding of averages on the commentary. "What does he need now to still average 100 if he gets out... another 12 runs?"

Highest average after 19 innings is 102.56 incidentally. So a while to go, and then he'd need the not out. ...or the triple hundred Bradman had almost 700 more runs after the same number of innings, shows how ridiculous he was really given how good Voges start has been.

Voges needs 272 to still be over the 100 average if he gets dismissed. Siddle has to hang around.

It's funny because someone like Steve Waugh was definitely thought of as an all-rounder when he first started, and Australia even picked Bevan batting at like 7 and bowling a ton of overs at one point. I think it's a fashion thing to a degree and also different between nations insofar as say...

I like the two random really loud dudes yelling stuff from time to time while the rest of the crowd is a dull murmur.

This is certainly how your average cricket fan tends to think of all-rounders but I really don't think it's true at all. There's tons of middling all-rounders who are decent contributors, usually in one field moreso than another, without being world beaters. It just seems more extreme because a...

Certainly, but then it comes back again to how often you'd need to refer the decision to the third umpire. Yesterday had 7 no balls the umpire was certain enough to call (and at least one was incorrect). How many other deliveries were close? I just don't think any plan which might have 15-20...

I just feel like if you implemented the possibility to review a no ball call to see if it was really a no ball, you'd have to do it every time the call was made. It just seems silly to me to have the possibility there, call a no ball (almost always a marginal thing) and then say "we could check...

You're right, and in this case a rule where all dismissals are checked for a front foot no ball wouldnt' prevent the error, it would need to be a rule where all no balls are double checked for accuracy. Which would seem to somewhat defeat the point of calling them at all, or at least relegate...

Bracewell was the best Kiwi seamer in the series in Australia, so I don't think it's just incumbency. I guess his figures aren't too great, but he was the best bowler in the first two tests when everyone was struggling and did well in Adelaide when it was a bit more bowler friendly as well.

    Smith playing really well now.

That's pretty much how helpful wickets are though. I think it's pretty tough to bat on, you don't really have to bowl that well to take wickets. That said, NZ could have done better for sure. Couple of really poor dismissals.

I feel like that would usually have been given not out on the evidence available. Seen quite a few reviews like that not overturned. Nevertheless, think it was correct.
