    Richard Hadlee vs Ian Botham

Heavily lean more 7 than 6.

    Richard Hadlee vs Ian Botham

Public polls are atrocious and I don't count those. Years ago I had collected quite a few "experts" teams and he didn't make any of those either. No disrespect to the great man, I think he's the 3rd best bowler ever.

    Richard Hadlee vs Ian Botham

Is he though? Hadlee is an absolute top tier bowler and a handy bat. Top 6 player of all time for me, Botham doesn't make my top 35

    Richard Hadlee vs Ian Botham

Yes, he was tied for 2nd with same McGrath.

    Richard Hadlee vs Ian Botham

For multiple reasons I'm the opposite. Don't like teams with Maco, Paddles and Immy. All 3 bowlers from one era is like choosing 3 batsmen from the 30's. If I'm choosing my two opening bowlers, and I know not everyone agrees, I just want my two best, period. I mean, those are the guys...

    Richard Hadlee vs Ian Botham

Think Marshall was just seen as the clear best of that era, Wasim seems to make a fair bit (possibly combination of peer rating and left arm variety) and the 3rd votes split quite a bit between Barnes, Lillee, McGrath and here Imran. For me the opening two are easily Marshall and McGrath...

    Richard Hadlee vs Ian Botham

Most AT XI's have Marshall, Lillee, Wasim. More recent ones, McGrath over Lillee. As an all rounder where does he fit into an AT XI? His batting is well below par for a top 6 spot, I have 7 team and he makes none of them, though he can have a good case for the 6th ahead Grieg.

    Richard Hadlee vs Ian Botham

Should be, but preconceived notions and such. Imran is the better all rounder, still believe Hadlee was the better cricketer.

    Richard Hadlee vs Ian Botham

Hadlee had a pretty special peak as well, and longer. Hadlee can make an AT XI (literally never seen him in one though), but he makes my 2nd team. Botham at best would be what, 6th?

Rank them : Donald, Imran and Akram

So, Ambrose has a relatively quiet if efficient 2nd half of his career, at his peak, Ambrose was easily better. Ambrose was the best bowler in the world for about 6 years. When exactly was Wasim the greatest bowler in the world? Warne has a claim after Amby, Donald had a claim as well. Wasim...

Pick one combo : Ambrose & Walsh vs Akram & Waqar

Did anyone get Ather's more than McGrath and Ambrose?

Rank them : Donald, Imran and Akram

    1. I do have Imran at the top of said tier, but not by miles. Hence I said personal preference. I really think, and I've also said this before, than Donald is really under rated and appreciated. 2. First up, you keep saying the best team of all time, but that was due to the bowling, especially...

Rank them : Donald, Imran and Akram

You keep saying Wasim was the highest peer rated if his generation, I'm saying for a decent part of his career he wasn't. I would say that Donald was more consistently consistent than Wasim. Very similar to the same argument you use for Sachin over Lara.

Who is the greatest cricketer out of this 13?

I think so. How rare are 50+ averaging openers and leg spinning 5th bowlers? And arguably the greatest slip ever? Definitely..

Rank them : Donald, Imran and Akram

Nothing to laugh at, even when we did our ratings here they are the ones rated around each other. Really isn't much to separate Imran from Donald. As I said, they all had their issues and caveats.

Rank them : Donald, Imran and Akram

You keep.mentioning highest peer rating. For most of his career Ambrose was the highest rated bowler, Donald was also best on the world for a period after Sir Curtly. Warne was also top of the roost for a good portion of time. Yes Wasim could do more with the ball, the others were more...

    McGrath. Ambrose. Steyn.

The mere fact that you believe Ambrose didn't have any variety or was incapable of adjusting his length makes me wonder if you ever watched him bowl, especially in the early years. He was the best bowler in the world from around 89 till his surgery, you didn't think he knew how to bowl?
  18. kyear2

    McGrath. Ambrose. Steyn.

Care to share your crystal ball? Those were where he played, because they were the marque match ups of his day. Steyn played all of two matches in Pakistan, 4 in the UAE where he did struggle, and 3 the Caribbean. Steyn didn't play double digit tests in literally any other country besides SA...

Rank them : Donald, Imran and Akram

I have all three, Lillee and I think O'Reilly in the same tier and really close, so basically down to personal preferences and they all have their issues.
  20. kyear2

    McGrath. Ambrose. Steyn.

Ambrose and Steyn are almost as diametrically opposed in style and function as two players can be, but I have them practically identically rated with the very slightest of advantages to Steyn. But yeah, their MO couldn't be further apart.
