    Over rates

We're talking cricket not a week on from the election of fascist paedophile to the most powerful office in the world. Of course it's meaningless "in the grand scheme of things."

    Over rates

An alternative (but far more awkward) idea: Change ends only once every five overs, while rotating the bowlers as usual.

    Over rates

Not that I know. I only thought of it a few minutes ago. Surely it stands to reason. Changeovers take time. Fewer changeovers mean less time taken. QED.

    Over rates

If this is true, it's an argument not just against this way of doing it, but against the whole idea of speeding up over-rates at all. Indeed, if we follow the logic to its natural conclusion, we might soon find ourselves demanding that cricket be made even slower...

    Over rates

I should, shouldn't I? Interesting question. Will look into it.

    Over rates

I'm not sure I understand this objection. Bowlers wouldn't necessarily be bowling more. There'd just be fewer changeovers.

    Over rates

Can't abide twenty-over cricket, and only watch it when I'm betting on it, so it wouldn't be right of me to extend my proposals to that format. I'll leave it to those who care. Overs were four balls long at the genesis of Test cricket. Also five for a spell. In other words, they've been...

    Over rates

Here's a mad idea: Why don't we revive the eight-ball over? With fewer transitions or change-overs, we'd be saving a helluva lot of time in the long run.

    *Official* BPL 2016

What's with the low attendances? Not as bad, to be sure, as South Africa's sponsorless T20 Challenge, but still surprising and noteworthy.

    ***Official*** England in India 2016/17

I hate these last-wicket stalemates, and can't for the life of me understand what others see in them, but so far I've been unable to convince anyone that fielding restrictions would be a good idea. Sigh.

    South Africa team selection

I've never understood how anyone feels confident making pronouncements about the quality of international cricket coaches. We simply aren't privy to their methods, and it's impossible to gauge the extent of their involvement in tactics. Quite different, in other words, to football managers.

Five things I don't get about cricket

Our English is dire, but actually I think our journalism has a lot to recommend it. Far more public-spirited and adversarial than its counterpart in the United States, for example.

Five things I don't get about cricket

My favourite gaffe today is Zaahier Adams's. He writes for IOL that the last rites were played out "in almost virtual silence."

Five things I don't get about cricket

Moonda casts her eye over South Africa's post-isolation victories in Australia and asserts that today's was "the toughest of them all." Five hard-earned wins down under | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo Really? It seemed to come pretty easily once Steyn got crocked! We were over ninety per cent on...

Hi, Robelinda. I've been sounding out this forum on the idea of undertaking a project to curate and preserve footage of old Test Matches. See the "Cricket Books" thread. Was advised to sound you out on this.
