    **Official** English Football Season 2023/24

Yeah I'm not surprised. Sounds like they just couldn't be arsed recruiting. If they were bringing Adkins in as technical director they should have let him find the manager he wanted. The worst part of having a manager you don't believe in is that when you win games you're never sure if it's...

Ha I completely missed that. What do the fan base think?

    **Official** English Football Season 2023/24

He definitely did a good job last season but I’m not convinced he’s a particularly good coach. I thought it was unusually smart of the owners to move on. Almost everyone makes a caretaker permanent when they do well for part of a season and it just literally never works out.

    Was 2-2 a fair result?

On the one hand I kinda feel like if you’re not willing to say 2-2 isn’t a fair result when one test was washed out on the brink of a dominant result, then you’ll never say it. But then I also felt like England got the rub of the green apart from that, and the cricket was remarkably even from...

I remember that picture being absolutely everywhere in the 90s. Less squeamish times. I think Schmeichel immediately puked and later got trauma counselling for it.

    Bazball final verdict

India is mostly just quite good for aggressive strokemakers right? I can think of lots of attacking batsmen who have done well there. Maybe it’ll go badly because India is a hard place to tour, but if they do fail I don’t think it’ll be because of Bazball. Most likely failure mode is that they...

    Bazball final verdict

Yeah I expected it to be very boom or bust but it’s been unexpectedly consistent. Their lowest score this summer was around 230 I think?

    "Retaining the Trophy"

Yeah I’ve noticed that a lot about Stokes late in his career. He plays like it means everything, but then as soon as it’s done he seems to immediately put into perspective that it’s not actually important enough to get too excited or upset over. The interviews after going 2-0 down were so...

My honest review of the Ashes

I thought Australia did have a lot of average performances with nothing amazing or terrible. I wouldn’t say anyone was a massive letdown, except maybe Boland. But they needed someone to really step up, especially with the ball. Opposite of 2005 in that sense.

    Bazball final verdict

It’s not a huge drop off or anything but I’d pick 2021 Root over this version personally. Batted in more difficult conditions and made fewer mistakes. The main reason his stats are worse because he toured Australia and I don’t think he’d do any better in Australia with his current style.

    Bazball final verdict

Maybe the philosophy is that batsmen with a technique watertight enough to get in and stay in only come along once every two or three generations. Everyone else has a ball with their name on it and they just need to score as many runs as they can before it gets them. Consistent with the fact...

Why do you think he made it 6 days long?

*Official* Fifth Test (The Oval, London) 27-31 July

I understand they had options and I do rate Robinson, but Woakes at home has figures that would make him the literal greatest all-rounder of all time. I don't think the selectors have ever really internalised that. Maybe it's hard to put how bad he is outside England out of your mind. But for...

Woakes had been consistently hitting the perfect spot today too. Something was happening off the pitch sooner or later.

    OK so it's Woakes.

England inexplicably leaving Woakes out of the first two tests is looking like the most decisive moment of the series.

Yeah you also have to factor in the inevitable plague of untied shoelaces and mysterious niggles requiring urgent treatment that will strike whichever team is losing.

Disappointing, but if that is the final session of the series then kudos to both teams and their fans for fitting so much wahhhh into it. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
