Ireland pretty poor tonight, way too many basic errors. Not a great game but NZ deserving. Should also be pointed out that Nic Berry is a terrible ref who hasn’t helped.

Where is Travis Head? The top order looks lost without him.

How much does captaincy impact results?

This is literally both Ben Stokes!!

He may well be the best we've still got (a bit like Anderson), but not sure that helps us going forward. I think he should be encouraged to meet up with a couple of distinct silhouettes as the outdoor sun is sucked into a horizonless neon-red darkness!!

I thought the WI bowling went alright. Outside of the first 10 overs or so there wasn't a lot in for the bowlers. They effectively won the two games, keeping England to well under par totals. I'm more concerned about English bowling, the likes of Archer, Topley and Rashid are miles off their best.

Thank You James Anderson- Farewell Thread

It's always with an eye on the Ashes that decisions are made. He clearly wasn't going to go next year so a Summer against WI and SL was a chance to try new talent and probably still win (which is how it panned out). On that front it's worked out pretty well with Atkinson in particular benefitting.

Completely agree. You look at Aus, Steve Smith played in England and is now playing against Pakistan. No reason why Root shouldn't be doing similar if the scheduling was a bit smarter.

We undoubtedly benefitted from the toss in the 2nd ODI. WI were the all round better side in this series, but it still didn't stop them losing that game (largely because they were 20-2 after about 8 overs on what soon turned into again a very flat deck). If the stats say 17 out of 19 games are...

If the bloke keeps on averaging 20 or so all the way through from about 35-41 he kind of becomes hard to drop. Anyway, Wagner got treated better at the end of his career than a certain S African who represented England....

I suspect a lot of the language comes from Felix White who helped him write it. I read Felix's autobiography (he's the guitarist from The Maccabees who loves cricket and does a very popular cricket related podcast with Jimmy and a Radio 1 DJ) and it was quite flowery for fairly nondescript...

It's not so much the team picks as the scheduling. Who are they going to choose when it's sandwiched between Test Series in Pakistan and NZ? A couple of them were a bit weird, but it was mostly the best available. The likes of Duckett, Buttler, Root, Brook, Stokes, Atkinson, Potts, Carse all...

I managed to inspire a decent knock from Jofra!! Still don’t think it’s nearly enough though. So much easier to bat on now.

Half decent effort from Mousley, but England a long way short of a competitive total. And I have no idea why Archer comes in before Rashid.

I think both Broad and Anderson were dropped/rested for that Windies series in an experiment to see if they were still needed. The answer was pretty conclusive. As for the actual article, isn’t it simply a case of ramping it up to sell a few books? I suspect they’re all having a laugh about it.

Whilst a lot of that is over dramatic tosh, I would point out that 1) Baz didn’t resurrect his career 2) Jimmy would probably have rather still been bowling than playing golf/coaching.

Trouble is, not sure you can defend 300 on this. But the first 15 overs are so much harder. All 3 matches kind of similar.

Wasn’t really much to see. He finished his over and walked off instead of heading to his fielding position. It caught the skipper out who was left with only 10 fielders for that over. It seemed like it was all to do with fielding positions.

Pitch already looks easier. What is it with here and North Sound that causes it? The stats don’t lie.

Would he even be bowling if Alzarri hadn’t chucked a strop. This could be a very quick game.
