Similar sentiments here, most satisfying of the three wins. While it was a dead rubber and crucial toss to win, India’s bowling was back to somewhere close to its best, and with the first innings lead they had NZ in a more familiar position. Was a proper dogfight from then on.

Was just going to post the same. Showed there’s room for the traditional approach where others tried to hit their way out.

Agreed, but i doubt NZ are touring this part of the world for a while. If he had a bad game here I think that might have been it for him. He really needed this.

Very atypical of someone who’s usually the smartest around in these situations. But symptomatic of the series for India.

Ajaz has gotten much better as the series has progressed, not for the first time. Bit of a luxury to have a player like that in this day and age, and you can see why NZ don’t select him unless conditions suit. But glad he’s shown at 36 he still has gas left in the tank.

Great catch on that occasion, and at a vital time too. Quite the enigma.

Yup more than the batting failures it’s the glovework and the reviewing which will put him on thin ice.

Lol how was Latham convinced to review? Even Southee wouldn’t have gone for that one

Got to be prepared to take the risk. The other quick might be an even more tricky proposition but Latham’s happy with what he has. Keeps him fit for the England series I suppose.

Don’t quite agree, but the fact that there’s this much room for argument means it shouldn’t have been overturned I thought. No consolation for Pant obviously who was superb.

It did look like the ball deviated a bit after passing the bat, in a manner typical for an edge, so can understand why the umpire may have felt that way. But yeah, enough evidence to overturn?

Nope, these two are going to bowl through i think. Ajaz somehow has to find that spot consistently against the LHB, Pant will do it all himself in a few overs otherwise.

He’s in the side purely as insurance, would be used more if NZ had runs to play with I guess. Same with O’Rourke. Didn’t like India’s decision to overuse Bumrah and Siraj and not bringing in Ashwin till it was too late (at Bangalore defending 110) either. Should shuffle bowlers around more when...

Whatever the outcome NZ have made a statement so wouldn’t be glum. That said, don’t like Latham’s attitude towards bowling changes, not ideal from a longer-term perspective.

Also tended to rescue an underperforming batting lineup on so many occasions. Gilchrist did that a few times but I doubt he was as burdened with it as Pant is.

Yeah it’s the kind of thing that will get swept under the covers given the successful tour, but it’s quite a concern.

Latham really has this willingness to overbowl one or two bowlers in the quest for wickets. It was Henry-O’Rourke in Bangalore, Santner in Pune. In both cases ends justified the means, but it’s notable that both Henry and Santner missed the subsequent tests. Something that needs a rethink i feel.

Or even O’Rourke. If there’s any uneven bounce he might just be a handful.

Pant has looked slightly less assured against pace than spin in this series. Think it may be worth a go at Ajaz’s end, give him a rest.

If it is deemed to have hit bat first, then is the catch irrelevant because of the dead ball?
