Road to India in Australia 2024-25

I really hope we do but our test pitches over the past few years have been alien to me. I believe curators have left generous covers of grass and they have seamed and not behaved in the way of a traditional Aussie pitches. There is talk that Adelaide in particular, is hard to balance and the...

    Martin Crowe vs Stan McCabe

Good calls. I wonder what modern selectors would’ve done in 1948 with the bowling resources available to England then. They could’ve picked Ridgway, Les Jackson, Bedser and Bailey - which is actually a decent attack and contrary to the narrative around England’s bowling just after the war. Laker...

    Martin Crowe vs Stan McCabe

Chubb is the only other 40 yo seamer I can recall playing tests other than Anderson. Though Tate may have played one test at that age.

At least you can have that discussion! Besides her side of the argument is not without merit.

*Official* New Zealand tour of India 2024

There was a time I was in San Diego and spent some time walking around exploring. While waiting at lights before crossing a road, I saw 2 cyclists and could hear them talking about cricket (which was an amazing coincidence). They were Americans and one said to the other that cricket games lasted...

Ha cricket fans. Talk about pitch conditions, red soils, black soils, the weather and drainage. Why aren't we popular with women?

    Martin Crowe vs Stan McCabe

Well Chubb according to the averages. But I think it was Athol Rowan, who is an interesting player. Fast medium before the war he became an off spinner eventually due to an injury he sustained (in the war I think). He always bowled in pain and sometimes with his leg in a brace (cricinfo). He was...

    Martin Crowe vs Stan McCabe

It's not good but I don't think the SA bowling is as bad as the figures claim. They played almost exclusively against Aus and Eng. Their figures would come down if they played a generous proportion of tests against weaker teams of the era.

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

It don't got spin. Actually quite like all the pitch discussions. Pretty handy for me as I can't see the game.

Or will Pakistan last that long?

    Courtney Walsh vs Bob Willis

I remember Wood rating the individual fast bowlers like Willis and Imran better than the WI quartet. While that is clearly the case with Imran, Willis is a little more dubious. However having watched both I was always more worried about Willis than Walsh. In this comparison Willis is much better...

I'd still back him to head RA over the current bunch of clowns.

Road to India in Australia 2024-25

He's been up the order (opener, no.3) for a while now.

Road to India in Australia 2024-25

He is one outside the failed 3 I've mentioned. He's been good for a few seasons now. I have a suspicion the selectors don't rate him.

Road to India in Australia 2024-25

Looking at averages and run rates there aren’t many candidates outside of the failed 3. Harris seems to have the best combination of ave and run rate overall. I’ve looked at turning someone like McDermott as a pinch opener but he doesn’t have an especially good run rate to pick him in that...

Road to India in Australia 2024-25

Not like there are many options though. but you have me thinking of an out of field fast scorer who could be used as an opener. Might have a scrounge around the shield to see if there’s anyone.

He’s the one on the bottom of my list. Don’t like him at all.

Road to India in Australia 2024-25

It would and for that reason I’d prefer to pick one of Harris Renshaw or Bancroft and hopefully get something out of them and just let Konstas continue in the shield. My preference is Bancroft but his form has been the worst of the hopeless 3.

Road to India in Australia 2024-25

He shouldn’t be considered, though given the alternatives of Harris Bancroft and Renshaw and that none of the established players are volunteering to open, if he keeps scoring runs he will be.

    2024–25 Australian Domestic Season

Yes Marsh deserves a spot but he hasn’t bowled for a while and I’m not confident he’ll be back doing it effectively for the bgt. He’s in front for sure but 5 tests without a 5th bowler might hurt us. Webster and Hardie should be a chance. Otherwise Travis might get a few overs this summer.
