Hopefully his experience will deter other young players from going T20 only.

Does world cricket need a strong England?

When questions along these lines have been asked in the past, I have always answered ‘No’, whichever country it was asked about. I have answered ‘Yes’ on this occasion though as England is one of the only (three?) countries where test cricket is still sufficiently popular for it to be played...

    English Domestic Season 2025

In business terms the Lord’s premium can be seen as goodwill based on the value of the name and branding. The valuations as a whole however do seem vastly over inflated for what they are purchasing - the right to host four short-format games per year, without permanent ground, players or staff...

    English Domestic Season 2025

Not that I would favour it, however two divisions of nine could play a single round robin in nine weeks.

WTC 2025 Final : Qualifying scenario

It will indeed be interesting to see if they have learned from the underwhelming attendance at the Sri Lanka test this year and drop their prices for the final. If they don’t we could see a thin crowd.

    English Domestic Season 2025

On reflection I think that the ECB is right to take a stance on this. It is probably better to lose a couple of players entirely than for a much larger number to pick and choose and miss chunks of the season. In an ideal world county contracts for England qualified players require exclusivity...

    English Domestic Season 2025

While I agree, It is curious that there is a carve out for white ball only contracts. This distinction could simply encourage more players to go white ball only and ‘have their cake and eat it’.

He chose the Pakistani side in the great divide. It was either a principled ideological stance or he was offered more money.

    English Domestic Season 2025

James Vince has decided to play in the PSL rather than the county championship. Tom Kohler-Cadmore too, though he was a less certain starter. The first case of a player defying the ECB’s hard line against franchise leagues.

WTC 2025 Final : Qualifying scenario

Back in 2010, the crowds for Pakistan v Australia at Lord’s and Headingly were pretty small.

*** Official *** Pakistan all format tour of South Africa 10 December to 7 January

It made more sense when there were more draws, so time was more likely a factor, and when there were rest days and longer gaps between tests.

In a recent Telegraph article he was doing some coaching, including with Jamie Smith. He expressed a desire to play again next season but didn’t sound hugely optimistic about it.

*** Official *** Pakistan all format tour of South Africa 10 December to 7 January

Going back to the 1890s, several players, including the whole lineup in SA’s debut, made their FC debut in a test.

**Official** Afghanistan in Zimbabwe (11th Dec to 6th Jan)

I see that the groundsman was asked to spice the pitch up a bit after last week.

    Mass Retirement Events

I am pleasantly surprised that Wood hasn’t retired from test cricket already. Stokes I can see happening post ashes, given his injury record and the Ashes seems to be the main target point of the bazball project. Root I would be surprised by. He seems much happier now that he is no longer...
