It isn't really, but the current trend is for history departments to be full of cultural, gender, and oral historians, who tend to be left-wing. Some of the crazier ones might consider me a tool of the bourgeoisie for using numbers. But mostly they'd just think my methods were so different that we'd struggle to contribute to each other's work, so there'd be no point working in the same department.

My work doesn't really have a political side, although I am currently trying to publish in a pretty lefty journal. It isn't laissez-faire, but the policy it prescribes is nothing like anything the left are currently proposing, and would probably result in a smaller state. It's sort of, stuff the government could do that would mean it could be much more laissez-faire without everything going ****-up.

And fair enough man. So brutal. Do you think the core group will stay together for next season?

I don't really know any other way! Posh's three goals in five minutes in the Play-Off Final in 2011 was so dispiriting. Yes, we haven't been overburdened with expectations this year ubtil recently, so it's different.

When we were in the Playoffs semi-final, I think we were the underdogs in both matches, certainly the Oxford one, where they finished a stupid amount of points ahead of us. The other was a derby against Torquay, so thankfully neither were typical conference fare of the type you describe. Lost the home-legs of both, went behind away in both, overcame the 2-goal deficit to win both. Got to say twas fun, not often I'll say that about the division.

Don't think either Wembley trip was fun exactly, one was devastating, the other joy, of course, but nerve-wracking and just an immense relief.

Would be gutting to miss out now after being in such a strong position for a month or so. Oddly not that worried if we get in about promotion. Not like the play-offyou're going into.

Gonna be an interesting pre-season whatever, Pym, Wheeler, Moore-Taylor, and especially Watkins and Ampadu could all go for cash, I suppose promotion might help us keep them, but it doesn't work like that in my experience. More you achieve the more they come looking, bigger fees though maybe.

Still, better all this then relegation scraps or mid-table monotony.
