Easily.

Man Utd.'s midfield consists of two players on their way out, one pretty young, one overpriced and "i'm not really a midfielder but i'll play there if i get a game" Smith.

Compare that to Arsenal's 4 class international players (i don't know if Gilberto plays much internationally).

he played every minute of the 2002 world cup, was rather foolishly overlooked this time around out in germany, statistically arsenal win a lot more often when he is in the side, so he must do something right.

Forgetting Ronaldo, Ricardson and Park.

Plus he's younger by quite a few years.
Is that supposed to justify a £14,000,000+ transfer fee, which Carrick is never worth?

That's another thing I hate about football. The obsurd amount of money involved. If anyone thinks £10,000,000+ for a players services is worth it is an idiot. That's a huge amount of money that could be going to something useful, but isn't. The salaries are huge. The ticket prices are extortionate. For an adult to go see 90 minutes worth of Portsmouth vs. Blackburn, two distinctly average Premiership sides, on a week on Saturday, it would cost between £28 and £37. On the other hand, an adult could pay £40 to go to Lords for the C&G Trophy Final or £16 to stand on the terraces and watch St Helens vs. Leeds in a top of the table clash containing internationals such as Wellens, Sculthorpe, Lyon, Long, Graham, Cunningham, Peacock, Toopi, Ellis, McGuire, Senior, etc. To see a good Premiership side would cost even more. Oooh, it vexes me.

There were 5 players - but i only mentioned 4 because i wasn't sure about Gilberto being an international player.

World Cup winner to boot.

Think he briefly appeared as sub in one (or maybe two) games this time, but one of the Juninhos was preferred in Brazil's starting XI.

yeah thats exactly is, bad call imo, gilberto was a very underated player of the 2002 squad, one of the few players to play every single minute and second for brazil in that campaign, perhaps the most underated player in the arsenal team.

looks like Andre Oojier could be going to blackburn :(
he'll be good for them though. Would either allow them to sell Neill or play him in the centre of defence like he did with Australia.

Oojier is a good player. I doubt Blackburn would sell Neill given his WC performances (except the last 30 seconds vs. Italy) unless someone came in with an unrefuseable offer.

I think the reason we are letting Oojier go is because koeman has been told he has to sell players before buying anyone and with VoH probably also leaving theres still a chance of Roy Makaay joining.

Neill only has one year to go on his contract and apparently his agent has told Blackburn he wont be signing a new deal...

That's insane! He's good, but not that good. About half that would be fair.

Especially after his poor last season.

Although Dr Massimo Moratti has denied this, I guess he runs the risk of being lynched if he does.

I was more wondering where they had the money from, unless Mr Glazer is throwing some of his own personal fortune in to fund the purchase, but given that he brought the club under so much debt that would be very unlikely.

looks like the ashley cole transfer saga has hit a brick wall, apparently chelsea will only offer £16m for him, which is about £9m short of arsenals valuation, with chelsea refusing to raise their offer i hope arsenal arent bullied into selling him for a cut price but i could see that happening, but i think its unfair for chelsea not to raise their offer considering they spent so much more on players like drogba who is a much more average player. Mind you they said they wouldnt reach marseilles valuation for drogba but put their offer up in the end, depends how much they want him i guess.
