So only having 1 quality striker isn't a problem then?
Depends if Saha gets going again really. But 2 quality strikers is still not enough over the course of a season.

I doubt Saha will get 30 goals like van Nistelrooy usually did.

I will say this though - Fergie has often been criticised for getting rid of players too early but his decisions are usually vindicated. Remember when he sold Hughes, Ince and Kanchelskis in 95? He replaced them with Beckham, Butt, Scholes, and had already bought Andy Cole. Cantona opted ro retire because he knew Fergie no longer saw him as a key player, and I think he was replaced with Sheringham, who was a huge success.

You could argue either way though, on Beckham, and while internationally he has been poor, I believe he has been one of the better players in these last three years for Real - though correct me because I do not claim to know much at all about Spanish football, I am ignorant like that.

Alas, going against my earlier point, I think Fergie is no longer getting his timing right with players, and his signings are not as intuitive as they once were. His only great recent signings are van der Sar, Heinze and Rooney, and let's be honest, none of them were plucked for obscurity, every team knew that they needed Rooney, and van der Sar isn't exactly a long-term option.

For me, the departure of the horse is good news for a Man U hater like myself, but it is a shame for English football because he is one of the world's greatest strikers. I am going to go as far to say that I would not be surprised if United ended up scrapping it out to finish 4th, and I think Fergie won't last much longer, and they will fall back the same way Liverpool did in the 90s.

Getting rid of Stam and Beckham has seen the decline of manU, thankfully:laugh:

Possibly but I have seen a lot of Carrick over the years and he has always struck me as a rather ordinary footballer, good on the ball but his actual work rate and diligence to the task can be questioned.
yes i would have to agree, hes certainly not bad at what he does, he can tackle and pass the ball at a decent level of quality, but thats it, decent, not anything more than that. Not dynamic and wont create many chances unlike as you have perviously mentioned xavi.

And who is that striker? You surely can't mean Rooney? Anyway Man Utd looked best season without a striker and with two forwards, Saha and Rooney. van Nistelrooy is gonna be spent pretty soon anyway. Wouldn't mind still having him though. Rooney, Saha, Rossi, Solskjaer and possibly Smith, if they click form a potent strike force.

Not sure it has the same ring to it as Crespo, Shevchenko, Drogba, Kalou, Robben or possibly even Berbatov, Defoe, Keane.

Carrick to Man Utd...

If the reported fee 15 million is correct, than Man Utd are at least paying ten million more than the guy is really worth. He has no pace, or positional sense, can not tackle, gives Xavi at Barcelona a run for his money as the master of the five yard pass but Xavi's passes usually go forward, Carrick's sadly go backwards.
If they were going to pay that amount of money why not try and sign Vieria I thought. Just imagine Arsenal's reaction

And I wasn't talking about them.

I was referring to those of Juventus, Fiorentina, and possibily Milan. There is nobody who would be of any use to United who play for Nazio.

In fact you can say the same about England and any other league.

Anyway I watched the Newcastle-PSV game earlier today, geez Newcastle's defending was hopeless.

At least one person is happy...

And I could name a list of mediocre, past it or unproven people and say that if they click it's a potent strike force just as easily, but it wouldn't make them actually good players.

Juventus are interested in Newcastle's Jean-Alain Boumsong, if an offer is made, especially if it is to include some players in return (guys like Zebina, Chiellini would be good for them), I would take it. IMO he has been that great since he has come to the EPL.

So you're saying Rooney and Saha are mediocre. Weren't you the same one saying van Nistelrooy was past it and now that he's gone the strike force is so woefully bad, wouldn't that make it better? Don't see how that adds up unless you're just trying to cover your tracks and make yourself not look stupid.
