I am going for Lara/Warne.

Tendulkar is a notch ahead of Lara but Warne is a slightly better bowler than Murali, a decent no.8 and will be a good captain for an average side.

Lara=Tendulkar, one more consistent, one with greater tours/performances.
Warne>Murali overall, could bat, great slip and great captain.

the second duo.

Please vote lol.

As for Warne, I think he will be a bottomline good captain and that to me is the deal breaker.

Just out of interest, do you think the skill gap between Tendulkar and Lara is greater or Warne and Murali?
on primary? probably Lara and Sachin, I don't know how to seprate the spinners, Lara has the Greatest serieses of all time (1999 BGT, 2002 SL) while Sachin was decisively more consistent over a longer period of time, on average Sachin is better but at his best I don't think many come close to BCL. Sachin is Angle, Lara is Eddie, if you catch the reference.

I agree it's harder to separate the spinners.

Kurt Angle was a beast at his peak.
The complete package - Great face. Great heel. Great in-ring skills. Great on the mic. Can play a comedy character and next minute can turn serious. The man can make even Stone Cold break character by being funny and next minute looks believable while making Undertaker tap out.

Eddie at peak is probably the GOAT but Kurt had higher consistency, similar to Sachin and Lara

Warne's batting is heavily overrated. e averages only 6 more than Murali in tests. Murali is a better fielder than Warne hands down.

An average team will look for day and day out consistent performance, and a long career. Even if Lara = Tendulkar and Warne = Murali, Tendulkar / Murali combo will suit an average team due to consistency and very long careers. Would be the same even if Lara and Warne would have had a slight edge.

Alright here’s some facts.

Warne’s runs per innings 15.85
Murali’s runs per innings 7.69

Warne balls faced per dismissal 30.05
Murali balls faced per dismissal 16.61

So Warne is going to score twice as much, and also last twice as long at the crease allowing for a batsman needing a tailender to stay in to make that many more runs. Its a huge difference between them in batting.

I don't think Warne scores enough for me to consider his batting any more than an add-on.

Captaincy is a genuine point.

For me the balls faced is a big deal for a tailender. An extra 3-4 overs he can face could be invaluable with a quality batsman at the other end.

Yes he is a good no.8 for an average side. But I am asking myself if as selector I would consider that selection criteria over a potentially better spinner.

Anyways Warne is a better spinner.
