Was he a fast bowler or spinner or did he do both?
Medium Pacer, same kind of bowler as Alec Bedser, Fazal Mahmood and Maurice Tate, Bedser is probably the closest in style with Barnes just being a way better variant of Bedser.

Barnes bowled exactly like this, per his own admission, though he had the reputation of being able to be genuinely quick if he ramped it up (rarely did).

I mean people will say they rank Warne above them, then constantly make derogatory remarks about his presence in the side and being an exploitable weakness because he’s a spinner.
There is a middle ground.

To one extent many here treat Warne and Murali as interchangeable with top pacers.

The other extent is to treat them as total liabilities.

Middle ground is to recognize that they have unique pluses and minuses, like being more deadly in 4th innings and less in first half of games, and may be more vulnerable against lineups of high quality spin players.

It’s because of the numbers
An average just above 50
Just 24 centuries and record skewed by one year

TBH Viv Richards is underrated as a test batsman and it becomes even more impressive if you take into consideration his strike rate.
And who he did it against.

The bowlers and attacks faced, no flat era and no minnows in-between.

His work was quality.

He have said over 9000 times how hard the 80s were while talking about Viv.
I mean, They were definitely harder than 00s or 60s no matter what context, Sobers definitely had an easier ride throughout his career for example. People are always gonna mention pitch spiciness.

when everyone's favorite batters get as stellar a record as Viv against the ATG/ATVG bowlers they could respectively face, come back and talk about it.

Bowled express pace with steepling bounce while also having the ability to seam, swing, and spin the ball at will

Here is an explanation, don't worry, I love educating poor lads who weren't fortunate enough to receive primary education, such as yourself.

Me: Viv did not have any batting era like other BAB candidates did, and didn't play any minnows.

You: Viv actually evaded his main attack

I don't sadly see the logical correlation, now if you said Viv had an easier time than other batsmen of his era, then sure, I'd agree that he had an easier career than Boycott, Gooch or Crowe.
