Chelsea, Arsenal, Brentford, forest and obviously Liverpool, that's a pretty cool way to win a cup also tbf.****ing neither did I, absolutely beautiful.
Have been sitting around in a haze for the last hour, it's great.
I now agree, Carabao Cup is also a prank competition!Never good losing to Utd obviously, but that's prank competition dispatched with at least.
It seemed that way before the start. It wasn't just the team who didn't turn up, the fans were totally blown away by their black and white counterparts too. The most passionate a Scouser gets these days is booing the National Anthem it seems.I now agree, Carabao Cup is also a prank competition!
Sorry Newcastle fans but it really means nothing.![]()
I was near King's Cross on Saturday night and to say it was full of Toonies was an understatement. In fairness we got talking to a few and they were good value. Clearly many made a long weekend of it and they basically took over the narrative from the weekend. I was even having to go across town on Sunday to Camden and still loads of them around there. It seemed that way before the start. Enjoying the jokes coming out of it though. "80 mins in and 2-0 down and still Slot won't put Salah on the pitch"!!
I'm too far removed to really understand it but Scousers tend to get a pretty bad wrap from what I read and hear. When I was in the city I thought they were quite receptive and jovial, the people had a bit of an Irish feel about them in terms of being welcoming and inquisitive towards an Aussie (admittedly most I met were after a few ales). That contrast to London actually surprised me and I see elements of that in some posters here too.It seemed that way before the start. Over my many visits to Merseyside following West Ham for nearly 30 years (and it's certainly been thankless task going to Anfield apart from one occasion), I can confirm that there are plenty of Irish pubs (and not the plastic paddy Irish theme bars) because of course Dublin is only a ferry ride away from there and it has a large Irish community as a result.I'm too far removed to really understand it but Scousers tend to get a pretty bad wrap from what I read and hear. The cup final was at 2.30am my time and despite two alarms I couldn't wake myself up to watch it. I did see the team announcement through half shut eyes and therefore wasn't at all surprised by the result, we've looked off it for a while now. Slot's rotation of the squad has not impressed me.
None of that takes anything away from Newcastle though. I'm happy they won it - I have a few distant relatives from those parts so it's great they have something to cheer about.
I think that's a bit of a cop out excuse haha. I've lived in Sydney, Buenos Aires, Madrid, Lima, Dubai (visited many others) and never had the same sort of feeling in those places. Even up in Newcastle, Sunderland and Manchester they were receptive and welcoming, maybe it's a northern thing.Over my many visits to Merseyside following West Ham for nearly 30 years (and it's certainly been thankless task going to Anfield apart from one occasion), I can confirm that there are plenty of Irish pubs (and not the plastic paddy Irish theme bars) because of course Dublin is only a ferry ride away from there and it has a large Irish community as a result.
With regards to Aussies in London, my experience is that they don't tend to stand out, or pretty much anyone else, given how international London is.
I'm just telling you how it is, there wouldn't be any hostility to you to being Australian/foreign, and I've lived in London pretty much all my life, Maybe you might find the smaller cities/towns a bit more welcoming, but I'd be amazed if you had any agg unless you went to the wrong part of town. A good mate of mine who is Glaswegian got told in no uncertain terms that he wasn't welcome in a certain East London pub probably the best part of 40 years ago. That had far less to do with him being Scottish, just that he was in a very rough part of town as it was back then with a real problem with outsiders, and an outsider would mean someone from a mile away! There would be parts of town that I wouldn't make much of an effort to go to, unless I was going to meet someone I knew.I think that's a bit of a cop out excuse haha. Anyway I'm not here to have a go at anyone or any place in particular, just been reflecting on some of the hostility lately and am conscious a lot of people here despise the football team I support![]()
No way , glory still has a dopamine effect that money can't buy. And beating a big team like Liverpool at Wembley , is a big deal for this great club.I now agree, Carabao Cup is also a prank competition!

Most of my mates are Scousers, I go on a golf holiday with them every year. Half of them are STH's at Anfield. I always find it bizarre discussing the England football team with them, they just have no interest. But I just don't get the booing of the anthem, it's not like Liverpool is that much different from any other Northern City.Anyway I'm not here to have a go at anyone or any place in particular, just been reflecting on some of the hostility lately and am conscious a lot of people here despise the football team I support![]()
That fella on the old forum was real hard work. What was black became white and all that. Many scousers do kind of identify as Irish re the anthem matter. I don't sing GSTK, but that's because I'm very happy with my belief of no almighty existing. Most of my mates are Scousers, I go on a golf holiday with them every year. My dislike has always been to the club, not the people. When I was growing up, they were ultra successful and so many people in my area (about 250 miles South of Merseyside) supported them because of that. I had a real dislike for plastic fans. You either loved or hated them. It was similar with Man Utd in the 90's, but they've become a joke now.
Hillsbrough divided the football community about Liverpool too. There was a Forest fan on our old Cricket Forum who despite all the contrary evidence still blamed the football fans for what happened there. The newspaper reporting at the time was so one sided that certain opinions remain ingrained over 35 years later.
Pet was such a knob. And was it D/L who ended up getting banned for having somewhat similar opinions? That fella on the old forum was real hard work. What was black became white and all that. D/L was Aussie wasn't he? Or maybe Yorkshire? And just tediously expressed the same opinion over and over again in a passive aggressive tone. Pet had no passive in his aggression though, nor Jock. Probably both loving the world these days.Pet was such a knob. And was it D/L who ended up getting banned for having somewhat similar opinions?
I generally don't really bother to sing it, largely because it's such a shite anthem. But that's somewhat different to booing it.
D/L was a Yorkie and a complete WUM. C247 wasn't the only cricket forum he was banned from. He was very tiresome at times.D/L was Aussie wasn't he? Or maybe Yorkshire? Bresnan a legend even when not taking wickets, Broad a lucky c**t when he was knocking over Warner and Clarke ad nauseum. That was essentially the depth of the argument. I can't remember the specifics of the time he finally got banned as that was a good few years ago. What I do recall was that he had a pretty nasty argument against one poster. I put both of them in the cooler for a couple of days but as soon as he came back he went straight for that poster again and that was that.D/L was Aussie wasn't he? Or maybe Yorkshire?
