ODI All Rounder Poll - Discussions

It looks as though longevity is a factor when voting. Both Jayasuriya (445 games) and Afridi (398) have flaws in their statistical resumes but, at their best, probably deserve inclusion.
At the other end of the scale we have players with fewer than 100 games (48 in the case of one player) gaining votes. Greg Chappell's performances couldn't be overlooked and was deservedly included. Others are up against 100 and 200 game players with equal and often better figures to their name.

So we are rating a player with only 48 games and 35 wickets ahead of players with 150+ games (including one of only two who have ever scored a ton and taken a 5fer in one game)? What's going on?

In fairness some would consider Collingwood to be only a part-time bowler with 0.56 wpm and 38.68 average?

In fairness Collingwood could be considered only a part-time bowler with 0.56 wpm and 38.68 average. Those numbers just don't cut for me as an allrounder (more of a good batsman that bowls a bit)
Is he that far off Jayasuriya (0.72wpm; ave 36.75) and Viv (0.63wpm; ave 35.79)? That pair made our Top 10 while Collingwood looks unlikely to figure in the Top 20 on current voting.

Taking a closer look Collingwood bowled in most games except for a weird 18 months between Jan 2003 and July 2004. He played 20 games and only bowled in 2 of those games (5 overs total). Wondering if he was injured?

He had a shoulder injury and it took him a while to get back into his bowling

Neil Johnson 1999 World Cup

Opened the batting and bowling for Zimbabwe in the tournament and averaged over 50 with the bat and under 20 with the ball. Got 3 motm awards in the tournament. Scored a brilliant 100 vs Australia and a 70 vs SA - 2 of the best attacks ever.

Thought this was who are best ODI allrounders of all time, not who had a good World Cup one time 😉
I really think some of you guys need to rate World Cup more. Performing in the biggest stage is much more valuable than in a trophy no one cares for or a bilateral against a string 2 team. Not saying it's all, but hardly any great allrounders are left and Collingwood I don't feel is one of them. Viv is the best ODI batter and Jaya had a super long career which he began as a bowler, and a top 20 bat. Collingwood was just an above average bat who was a handy bowler.

I was thinking about Pandya as one of the better ODI ARs during the Champions Trophy. Definitely deserves a spot now. Has enough longevity I think.

Surprised Heath Streak not getting a lot of love for some reason? He was a much better allrounder than most of these other picks not named Hooper

Heath Streak - 189 matches
2943 runs @ 28.29, 239 wkts @ 29.82

No doubting his longevity. His early batting was ordinary and, after he earned his spot as a batsman his bowling fell away. Was never a great all rounder at the one time.

In the mid 90s to early 2000s he was one of the World's top openers and an extremely useful bowler. Probably not an ATG allrounder, but I do think people with really long career should really not be judged on raw numbers
