He also basically won 3 matches single handedly, the latter led to a series victory. As I said previously, 2 Good Series, 1 mid and 1 horrible. Overall not good, but hardly bad either
The whole point was you saying that England pitches weren’t friendly to pace. They were, English bowlers just sucked comparitively. And Kapil was mostly below average in his bowling there. Overall he was an average pacer for the Indian side, which considering its stocks at that point isn’t anything to crow about. Fair judgement, no?

Yeah third is my cut off. But Punter seems far less odd in the first ATG XI than Kapil.
that's probably because most ATG bats have similar actual quality and some are like 5% better than others (like Sachin vs Kallis) while someone like Imran or Miller is quite a bit better than Kapil

We are talking about both Indian quartet AND Qadir. Qadir was a loose cannon and when he was bad he was really bad. But when he was good, he was Warne / Murali quality. WI succumbed to that quality Qadir on some occasions. India did not even when he was at his absolute best. That is the difference.

This is the same argument on later dates concerning Lara and spin play. There were many better players of spin than Lara in SC, but none of them were better batsmen than him because they sucked against pace.
Can you list the many better players of spin from Asia than Lara. Also, list the "dozen" Indians and Pakistanis better vs spin than Viv.

And stop the bs about Qadir being good or bad. Viv took him and Qasim apart in 1980 in Pakistan. And Qadir did just fine in the 2 tests he played. Qasim was outstanding.

The likes of Lara and Sachin will never look out of place in an atg xi. They may however, be pushed down in the overall rankings which is completely different. For example, if Smith retired now, for me he's pushing Lara down a spot. But both will still be on contetion for the world XI.
Like I said, this is a hypothetical situation where they do. You keep avoiding answering it.

Oh and whilst I’m pushing at this, the criteria of “making their team’s all time XI” feels off, when some teams have inherently more talent than others.

O’Reilly for example wouldn’t make his team’s all time XI (I think I’ve seen one poster who does this) but I would most definitely call him an ATG and wouldn’t call him out place in a World XI

Wait, did he actually say English wickets weren't pace friendly? Are you sure?

My whole point was no. The English pitches were flatter for pacers in those series than average, especially his last one. Also don't think going by just average paints a proper picture here. He genuinely was very good in 2 out of his 4 series, won a match in another 3 matcher though sucked in the 2 other matches there and was legit horrible in his last. My whole point is he isn't as bas in Eng or Pak as his average might suggest

Yes. Except for Bradman factor, I think the other ATG sides will have their matches won or lost based on bowling difference. Batting is minimal.

Exceptions to every rule my friend. Not too long ago I made the same point you're making regarding O'Reilly. I said the same about the England openers. One of them is definitely missing out unless they bat out of place but they're all 3 still atgs. Can't punish them for being undisputed greats but coming up against greater greatness (Warne and O'Reilly). The key take away from my atg stipulation is the not looking out of place in a world XI (plus stats, reputation, peer ratings etc).

His post was slightly cut off but I’m pretty sure that was the intent based on context.

I’m curious how you come to this conclusion.

Looks like they were friendlier

Kapil being a better player of spin than Viv is certainly an all timer take
It's not just Viv he said all WI batsmen from the 80s. That's absurd and stupid. That's like me saying hey, Hooper made runs vs the Ws so he must be better vs pace than all Indian batsmen of the 90s...

Lloyd did not average 75 in India just for someone to say Kapil is better against spin man

And like I said you’re still avoiding the hypothetical. In a future where Tendulkar and Lara look out of place in an ATG World XI would you be comfortable calling them not ATG players.

Like say, players like Harvey and Compton would’ve not looked out of place in an ATG XI in days past but do now, I’m sure you don’t consider them ATGs. Would this also be the case with Tendulkar and Lara?

@capt_Luffy isn't Kapil's impressive batting mostly against pace? against Botham/Willis in 82 or against windies most of his career or smacking peak pace Donald in South Africa?

And no body ****ing responded when I said overall average doesn't makes sense, series by series analysis is better
