Excuse me but that '03 wi team he did well against had a decent batting lineup and that series was played on absolute roads. Yet Jason excelled.
Disagree. WI had basically only two good batsmen in their entire lineup in that series. Lara/Sarwan/Chanderpaul/Gayle all missed games in that series and their lineup was never fully whole and you had crap batsmen like Ganga/Samuels/Devon Smith as the spine of the batting lineup. Think the only one the good batsmen all played was the last one where Gillespie sucked and WI chased 400+.

Bowlers like Walsh and Gillespie benefitted massively from supportive home pitches and pressure generated from the other end through worldclass support which helped their averages.

Kapil had none of those and it is obvious he would have a record approaching what those two had if he had those advantages.

Not sure why there is resistance to accepting this.
Then riddle me this. Walsh played in the same Asian conditions Kapil did and excelled yes or no? Yes. Walsh also played in the England, NZ, South africa etc and sucked in Australia but excelled everywhere else yes or no? Yes. Bear in mind Walsh toured and excelled in India in '94 sans any other class bowler, toured and excelled in Pakistan '97 with an Ambrose you yourself said was rubbish. Dev played enough tests in favorable conditions and generally was hardly passable (Nz, Eng, RSA). There's no resistance, your pov makes absolutely no sense.

I would more expect Australia to drop Gillespie for Kapil than Lee, despite Gillespie being better.

Selectors love a speedy boi.

The wickets are what I'm more highlighting brother.

Dev played 3 games in SA at his career end and Eng wasn't certainly a favourable condition in. And Walsh was excellent in India, but 90s India was strangely not that flat to pacers. Through our that decade, no Indian pacer with more than 2 wickets averages 32+. That includes a fair few scrubs as well.

Didn't realize your standards were so low....
Imo, to be atg you have to guarantee a spot in your teams at xi and not look out of place in a world ATG XI . Atg should be rarefied air imo. Atg all rounders in particular, should be great in at least one of their disciplines or close to it. Atg AR: Sobers, Imran, Hadlee, Kallis (on the fence regarding Miller and Pollock).

I think you are wayyyy too restrictive. Both Kapil and Walsh are easily ATGs for me. Faulkner, Shakib, Jadeja, Noble and Wooley are ATGs as well. Especially Miller and Pollock not being sure shots just feels wrong.

Nice try bub, how on earth was 90s Indian wickets all of a sudden not flat for pacers? Fwiw, Walsh took 4-95 in the 2nd test where India piled on 500 odd. You can make your points witout trying to diminish Walsh's accomplishments. And what about Pakistan, Walsh excelled in a series there where Pakistan piled on the runs in each test.

think I might be pushing with this point but... Kapil often performed with the bat in serieses where he failed with the ball, and thus managed to contribute one way or another anyway.

Would you consider Dev for a World XI? If the answer is no, he's not atg. He's great, that's it.

Walsh's SC record is Great, I have said many a times. My point was against the flat Indian pitches, which they necessarily weren't in the 90s.
