Alright, if you want a more indepth response, Sutcliffe is simply put a true ATG bat, he averages more than Hammond in the timeframes of their career

He's also arguably THE GOAT Ashes bat, which is very important to legacy of English Cricketers, 67 average against Australia, 65 in Australia and 70 at home (unlike Hammond who averages 37 in home ashes), was a completely GOATed player of spin given his ability on sticky dogs, was proven against pace of people like Larwood in the first class circuit as well, he has a borderline flawless record

only reason I've him lower than say Hammond is because of longevity (11 years), I don't think there's any real conversation on Sutcliffe vs Boycott really, Sutcliffe vs Gavaskar is more interesting.

No need to be surprised tbh. There are infinitely many stats, and some "mediocre" player is gonna appear high in some of the metrics, pretty normal imo.

iirc he was pretty poor in 1930 and Bodyline. But pretty consistently quality outside of that. First and last series he only played one match though. iirc he went big daddy during Hutton’s 364

Where are those numbers from? There is no 11-year run where Viv made that many runs or hundreds.
