Lara wasn't Viv or Sachin or Punter against pace. But he wasn't average either. He has some ATG inns against very good pace attacks as well. You don't get such an output just by being great against spin.

Yeah we can see that in his record against great pace bar one series (99 Home series), he's not in the same standard of flawlessness as Sachin or Viv or Hutton.

I'm sorry but I'm usually more critical to players than I am to Lara when it comes to BAB chat or vs Sachin/Viv/Sobers type players, if you can't handle genuine critique of Lara then that's a you problem, I don't mention this in every Lara topic like Subz does either. You'd have zero issues if "Lara" was replaced by "Viv".

Atherton comment was sarcasm, But I don't think Lara's record against great pacers is really anything above "okay" that's boosted to "good" by one series against McGrath and one good one (albeit, against post prime) Pollock, definitely not ATG standard, there's too much failiure there.

I guess the coach has a couple of options. Either need to try and placate him "In your day the star batsman always opened, but these days the star batsman always bats #4. We had to move Bradman and Tendulkar from their preferred spot to make room for you."

Or try and reverse psychology it: "The librarians and Communists who pick the batting order think you're the 4th best batsman. Go out there and prove them wrong!"
