8th Match - Afghanistan v England

FBU

International Debutant
Carse and his toe are out of the CT. Ahmed might not arrive on time for Afghanistan. So I imagine Overton will be the 3 seamer. Ahmed will be ready for South Africa but I can't see us playing him.

It’s very possible South Africa will be a dead rubber, in which case we’d be insane not to pick Ahmed just for the experience

He's not injured, I don't think. Mark Wood is just everyone's favourite cricketer I guess so he has to play (despite an ODI average of 40).
His average might be 40.00 but it is the sight of balls over 95mph that is exciting for the batsmen and McCullum/Buttler. Even for the Ashes he will be picked for that speed.

Archer 26.57 econ 5.14
Wood 40.20 econ 5.58
Carse 39.45 econ 6.50
Atkinson 40.53 econ 6.69
Mahmood 31.00 econ 5.24
Overton 14.66 econ 4.88

in fairness he goes ok in tests and was decent last time he played in australia.

Yep, Wood should play in Australia and South Africa where it suits his pace. Realistically the next Ashes should be his swansong. It is quite remarkable he's had the ODI career he's had though.
