6th Match - Bangladesh v New Zealand

Macewell's ODI batting record is interesting. He has the early match-winning hundred against Ireland and the freak 140 against India in Hyderabad two years ago. So if he comes in early after a collapse, he is capable of going big - at his best he is absolutely destructive. More commonly we want him to hit a quick 30 or more to ice an innings. If you include T20s too he's done that only a handful of times - the best example was 59(33) vs Sri Lanka at home. A few 20s in there. But not quite as much icing as you'd like, yet.

I'd love to see a few 40(25) from him this tournament.
He hit 31(23) this month

hot take but I reckon Macewell is better used as a middle overs enforcer than death overs finisher, because that's where he's been doing really well for Wellington (due to their batting ineptitude rather than a plan though). Float him up the order during overs 20-40 to keep the LH/RH combo or to target a matchup.

Ideally Latham would be icing rather than cake

It's good to have a semi finals spot wrapped up, that win was a little less comfortable than I had hoped for but we got the job done in the end.

Why are they playing Crowded House there? Aussies keep telling me they are an Australian band despite the main man Neil Finn being a Kiwi.

Yeah we've lacked good finishers for so long, the composition of the side demands Macewell be the core of it at 7 whether that's his ideal role or not. He does at least have the power to find the boundary with ease, perhaps without being as one dimensional as Neesham's death hitting got to be.

Did what they had to do New Zealand, but can't be happy with the 22 wides & I thought Jamieson was just okay but hopefully better for the outing. If both O'Rourke & Jamieson are playing I think I'd prefer O'Rourke taking the new ball with Henry & Jamieson 3rd seamer.

Don't listen to Aussies.
They lie about Phar Lap, flat whites, and the pavlova too

yeah so I think the idea of thinking of players as 'finishers' is kinda behind the times. If you want a guy to try to score 40 off 20 there's no reason (other than risk aversion and tradition) why they can't be used in the middle overs, if that's where teams are going to try sneak in their weakest bowlers.
