why AB above Amla and Smith in Tests?

Amla and Smith played in top order which is a tough position for SA batsman. They have more match winning performances and hundreds away from home against major teams than AB. AB has often come in and scored hundreds when top order already built the platform. Remove WI and his ton count reduces to 16.

These are some reasons I wonder why.

Yeah but his 65 at Capetown against India or his 80 in the very next match at Centurion were very, very valuable, as much as good hundreds imo

Very similar players. Both were ATG players of spin but flat track bullies against pace.

Mahela was sublime against fast and short stuff. It was length outside off he struggled.
