Yep that's true , but the sad thing is that Nortje and Coetzee were competing for one spot so one of them was going to miss out to Ngidi and there lies our problem ..Without a high class wrist spinner, Nortje and Coetzee are so vital for us in white-ball cricket.
That's fine though. Rabada and Jansen provide different threats.Yep that's true , but the sad thing is that Nortje and Coetzee were competing for one spot so one of them was going to miss out to Ngidi and there lies our problem ..
We are a team of compromises , we can never enjoy the freedom of selections that other teams have. It's fine we have learnt to live with it, and that's why a good coach is so important to this side, because there is talent here even with these compromises they just need a balance that allows them flexibility.
Benkenstein batting 9 with Boje and Boucher in the top 4 is such a South Africa thing to do.Remembering some Kallis brilliance for tragically our only ICC event win.

Proper wonky.Benkenstein batting 9 with Boje and Boucher in the top 4 is such a South Africa thing to do.
Including that team. It's hardly one you'd pick as being likely to win a tournament given the big guns who are missing. Most things worked.
Haha yupIncluding that team. It's hardly one you'd pick as being likely to win a tournament given the big guns who are missing.
That sort of out the box thinking is what's needed to win tournaments..Haha yup
Elworthy at 11 is mental.
Crookes & Boje could pass off as domestic white-ball batsman with 100s. Rindel bowled handy SLA didn't he? So we had 4 spin options.
Bouncing back after the disappointment of 1996 where I think we arguably played our best ever cricket in a World Cup also under-estimated.
Rindel bowled wobbly left-arm seam up. But wasn't quick, could almost be "Slow left arm" ha ha.Haha yup

Rindel bowled some slow left arm medium and slow left arm darts. Wouldn't call it spin.Haha yup

It can also backfire badly if you go too funky. See SA dropped Donald for the 1996 quarter. That sort of out the box thinking is what's needed to win tournaments..
Haha yeah - did it quite often domestically. He burst on the scene with a couple hundreds for EP in List A if memory serves me correct so in that Boje/Crookes mould.Remember when Robbie P batted 3 for us at the Champions Trophy? That was funky![]()
Yeah they really wanted him to be Nicky Boje.Remember when Robbie P batted 3 for us at the Champions Trophy? That was funky![]()
Before NZ in India 2024, there was RSA in India 2000. Nicky B did a better Santner than Santner himself did last year.Yeah they really wanted him to be Nicky Boje.
The pak pitches are all quite flat. This CT tourney is going to see a lot of 300 vs 300 matches.

He shouldn't be in the first team. In many ways I would have preferred Maphaka to give him the experience even if he wasn't better.Looks like it.
Just would be nice to appease the concerns with Ngidi and Shamsi showing signs of building into the tournament but they aren't. Particularly Ngidi, looks a long way off.
