*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Just realised I mislabelled the years in the original post - 2024/25 are the first columns whilst 2022/23 are the last columns (2023/24 by dumb luck is correct in the middle)

Anyway I've deleted the 2022/23 season and added the strike rates for the relevant parties

# not out due to rain and no result
% Did not keep - Matt Boyle listed as keeper

Chu the Chu-oice if you want a late order hitter, Fletcher if you want more a straight middle order swap for Latham
Not going to keep updating it as thoroughly but 4 out of 6 keepers had a mare this week and the 2 that didn't were, quelle surprise, Fletcher and Chu.

OK since I have clearly too much time on my hands tonight, I did a bit of a deep dive into the Ford Trophy form of all our wicket keepers for the last 3 seasons. Those who kept in 1 innings of a season (Finn Allen, Matt Boyle, C00per, Foxcroft) have been excluded, as has Cole Briggs who hasn't kept in Ford Trophy since 2022/23 season.

Observations:
  • Dismissals probably really don't mean jack on the surface of it
  • Cleaver's form is mirroring that of Latham ODI efforts over time - I had advocated for him in another thread, but nah
  • No offence to McLachlan but if you wanted to break into a side as a keeper, move to Wellington
  • Seiferts numbers surprised me. I know he's not flash with the gloves but if he didn't become a gun for hire and spent more time in the Ford Trophy this year, he'd possibly be on a plane to Pakistan this weekend
  • Fletcher could probably feel aggrieved to not be given a chance by now in the ODI squad
Seifert is definitely the best bat IMO but his keeping is shoddy and he has to open, both which would count against him. It'd be like picking Finn Allen to do it in a way.

I'm assuming SS has a good reason for not including Hadlee, would like to hear it. Seeing Crowe is in there , apparently no restrictions on players who turned out for NZ before Styris's time.

Looks like Southee continues to get a free pass in ODI sides even after his career is done. Mills or Henry above him any day, and even Pringle or Chatfield would round off that attack better than he does. Someone like Oram at no.8 might even be better for the balance of the side. (RJH if included just renders all of them redundant, but anyway).

Good selections otherwise.

Mitchell's probably not far away. Conway probably has the best average of an opener but not enough runs. Ravindra, Phillips potential picks in the future. Southee is kind of a joke pick with Hadlee available, even Henry/Mills would be far ahead.

Apart from Southee it is a pretty decent team.
If Mitchell and Santner have great CTs both would also be a chance to make it along with a few from the past.

I wouldn't even put Southee in NZ's top 15 ODI bowlers, let alone an all time team.

Could pick an 11 containing 10 all time greats, plus the yellow wiggle. And it would makes as much sense as that Styris 11 10+1. That was weird

bruh he averaged almost 34 with an econ of 5.5 over 160 games he just sucked at ODIs
He was averaging around 30 up to the 2015 World Cup. Once he lost a yard and became more of a specialist swing bowler his effectiveness as an ODI bowler completely evaporated, but he was decent enough to begin with. No question that selecting a guy in your all time XI who couldn't even make the first choice side for the majority of his career is a bit of a wtf call from Styris.
