Gavaskar played 3 Tests vs Imran before 78, and Imran was pretty good there, as was Nawaz really. It wasn't like very early career Imran.
Also, you forgot Marshall.

His average becomes 42-43 without that series which is fine, the series was very flat though iirc.

for the 78 series, after that when Marshall actually became a good bowler, they played 10 games, and you know those games very well.

Yeah it was flat, but Pakistani bowlers Nawaz and Imran did quite well there, compared to Indian ones where all averaged 48+

Pretty sure Gavaskar vs Marshall in 78 isn't the only one to play an ATG before them becoming an ATG or then passed their heydays......

well even at that point Imran was better than Indian bowlers on flat wickets obviously, but I don't really think he was an ATG yet
