I feel Kapil Dev is overrated in test cricket. Avg of 31 with bat and 29 with ball.

Averages 33 away from home with the ball.

Hadlee - 22
Imran - 26
Botham - 30
Kapil - 33

Kumble>Kohli is fine, but Jadeja averages 5 runs lower with the ball while being a mid 30s bat. Even with home advantage and everything against Kumble, that's a really significant gap imo.
Jadeja came in to bowl with Ash in tandem and mostly after a strong pace attack. Kumble was carrying our attack at home and had to toil away from home in a way few spinners have had to in the last 30 years. I think there's quite a significant difference between their bowling which is not quite reflected in their avgs. (Jadeja avging 5 less is quite the opposite)
And Kumble wasn't exactly a dud with the bat either, he has a test hundred to his name, although not nearly all rounder level. Kohli, Jadeja and Kumble I find it hard to seperate them much.

I don't think, as a matter of fact, that Jadeja is really close to Kumble as a bowler. I do think though the gap is small enough for Jadeja being a specialist level bat to overcome.

I feel like Kumble has a big argument for how much he carried and was important to the Indian side. Feels like Jadeja, though quality as he is would’ve been more easily replaceable and say, India might’ve still had that big home win streak. So he has an argument to be ahead from that pov.

Yeah that's true. But by importance, Kapil arguably is ahead of Gavaskar.

Honestly Bumrah wouldn't really be out of place even at no.1 because he's the only ATG bowler in the list tbh.
