Jimmy Anderson vs Ashwin

I don't really take his career before 2010 or so seriously,

If we only take Anderson's after 2010, and entire career of Ashwin, then It's clearly Anderson for me. I am familiar with the poor start of Anderson. Problem with this approach is that we take best phase of one player and then comparing it with entire career of another.

If you remove first 24 tests for Ashwin then,

Ashwin after his first 24 tests: 8 MOS in this period for him.

Yeah but 14 years is a long enough career for a seamer really, 9 years is not a long enough career for a spinner.

plus, Ashwin did improve over time but his action wasn't unjustly changed by the coaches and the people around him, his developement was very natural whereas Anderson was hampered by the medical staff asking him to bowl with a different action because to them the action wasn't very sustainable which was proven wrong later on, he returned to that old action around 2010 and the difference is very clear.

Before 2010: 148 @ 34.86
After 2010: 556 @ 24.22

so with people like Ashwin, whose career started in November of 2011 and ended in december of 2024, I simply go with the modern action variant of Anderson considering almost the entirety of Ashwin's career is contained within Anderson's natural action phase, and Ashwin has 13 years as a whole and Anderson has around 14 years so it's not like Ashwin is getting undercut on longevity.

As I said, if we take only post 2010 Anderson, then it's Andeson for me as well. Most pacers will be simply dropped after 40-50 tests if they are averaging 45 away and 35 over all. That was Anderson's output till then.

Anyway, all credit to Anderson for improving. I have not made a list anytime it but I think he will make into my top 15-25 test pacers. Some where, not sure exactly where.

2018 onwards Ashwin averages sub 30 in Australia as well. Given pitches and impact he had on 2021 BGT win, not too bad.

Anderson is easily better in Aus overall.

Anderson in SENA, Ashwin in Asia is one of the easiest statements to make.
