Top five Slippers (slip fielders) you've seen..

Whatever it takes!!!
Smith is like the Lara of slip fielders. When he's locked in, he can do stuff no one else can, and there's no one better.

But is he always locked in?

haha.. I often felt Lara himself was the Lara of the slip fielders.

In fact, IIRC, his fielding was a big reason to keeping England to a chaseable score in the 2004 Champions Trophy finals.

I might be wrong on this one (haven't checked stats), but Trescothick always seemed a very dependable first slip. The fact he retired from Tests before he got too old probably did him a favour too, as there's no doubt it gets harder in your mid 30's. Although, pretty certain he was still hoovering them up for Somerset well after that anyway
Tresgothic is definitely on my extended list, not quite at this level imvho.

Plus I tend to rate 2nd slip guys a little higher, it's like an opener / no 3 boost or pacer over spinner.

Lara had one if the best ever techniques I've seen at 2nd slip. The knee bend and allowing the ball to come to him.

Just think Richardson and Hooper was better, more reliable and more range.

Oh yeah.. I meant I would rank Lara with Smith among slip fielders. Both obviously a rung below the very best.

Smith can do things, so very few can though.
Honestly think Green, Webster etc are far better in a far tougher position. And Ponting is easily better than Smith as a slipper, so are M Waugh and Mark Taylor. Maybe even Warne and Hayden. That is just among the Aussie team players.

Ponting was more consistent, yes.

Taylor and Waugh wer better, Taylor primarily because of his work to Warne. Hayden was so very underrated and borderline brilliant.

Warne is just overrated as hell in the slips, he's not in the same conversation as these guys. A tier below Lara even.
