7000 ODI runs for Kane! Though with the impending demise of ODI cricket it seems unlikely that he will ever get close to Taylor's 8600.

I just don't think he has done enough to be anywhere near being picked and he doesn't have the ceiling x-factor of Simelane.
Mpongwana is a better bat than Bosch. Didn't he play a match winning knock in the last OD final we had in SA? From what I've seen of him he doesn't go big from ball one hence Bosch going above him and Muthusamy who probably should have been at 6 on merit in this team since he has a Test 50.

Agreed. Eathan would bat 8 if there was more time left.

Mpongwana got a 100 in 2023/24 One-Day Cup final with another WP player but I honestly can't remember him scoring much elsewhere for WP. Our balance is so wonky, he sometimes bats 5 in white-ball but 7 or 8 in red-ball because that team is far better balanced. But yeah, just my opinion but he doesn't have game yet for this level. His bowling is okay without being extraordinary. There were some games he wasn't even bowling recently.

It’s like Southee in tests, as part of the core leadership group he’s seemingly undroppable. Will probably captain as well if Santner happens to sit out. At least Southee had the career record behind him.

Oh well, let’s just decide on which three-letter surnamed WK looks like the best bet and go with them already.
It's just an incredible waste of a position. GP bats one too low at 6 (and is batting 5 anyway because Latham can't score a run) and Bracewell is more than capable of batting 6. Yes, it allows those guys to play as finishers which they're really good at, and Santner is too hit and miss, but he's a busted arse, Latham. He's clogging up a spot and I can't see a world in which he either a) plays a good enough middle overs innings or definitely b) he finishes well.

After this summer, I actually don't think Hay nor Chu are ready, Blundell is basically done, Cleaver is overrated by anyone who lives in the middle third of the country and Fletcher got in the frame then trailed off completely. It's a pretty bare cupboard right now, to be honest in white ball.

But yeah, **** it's hard to get dropped in the Stead era if you are a big name. Apart from Wags. Bizarre, really, given he'd have been the biggest voice pushing back against it
