Don't think it was his last because I recall watching the match after and it being referenced and he was again back to himself.
TJB is right, it was his last series, 2002 in Pakistan at the ripe old age of 37. It was the first test so perhaps you’re thinking of it being mentioned in the second or third test.I know it was his last series
Didn't mean it wasn't the last series, meant the last match.TJB is right, it was his last series, 2002 in Pakistan at the ripe old age of 37. It was the first test so perhaps you’re thinking of it being mentioned in the second or third test.
He still managed to take 3 catches in that test, 3 in the second and 2 in the third. Australia did end up winning that test (by 41 runs) and both the other tests (by innings+)
He also had a poor series (80 runs @ 20) with the bat.
Shells too many chances.Where does Steve Smith rank? Despite what the stats say, Smith isn't better (or worse) than Mark Taylor or Mark Waigh. He is the equal of them in my opinion.
Thats what I'm thinking too. Glad someone agrees. Don't let's the stats fool us I guess. 200 catches (and counting) and he is a very good slips fielder but as you've pointed out he has dropped a lot of catches.Shells too many chances.
Smith is Great, sometimes. Others he drops ones I would grab.Where does Steve Smith rank? Despite what the stats say, Smith isn't better (or worse) than Mark Taylor or Mark Waigh. He is the equal of them in my opinion.
**** me this is an awful take. Mark Waugh not a better catcher than Steve Smith? Like saying Bradman wasn't a better batsman than Ed CowanWhere does Steve Smith rank? Despite what the stats say, Smith isn't better (or worse) than Mark Taylor or Mark Waigh. He is the equal of them in my opinion.
But that's my opinion. You have yours, I have mine, others have theirs. Simple as that really.**** me this is an awful take. Mark Waugh not a better catcher than Steve Smith? Like saying Bradman wasn't a better batsman than Ed Cowan

I might be wrong on this one (haven't checked stats), but Trescothick always seemed a very dependable first slip. The fact he retired from Tests before he got too old probably did him a favour too, as there's no doubt it gets harder in your mid 30's. Although, pretty certain he was still hoovering them up for Somerset well after that anywayStruggled for 5 names for England, and NZ somewhat.Could only come up with 2 from Pak, 1 from SL, though could have used Sunny for India.
If anyone wants to infer anything from that, then fine.
