with the way I rate them it should be close.

with the way Luffy rates them, Root should frankly massacre Trueman, Trueman averages 20 at home while Root 55, we all know whether England is bowler friendly or batter friendly. Away from home, Root has awesome work in both South Africa and New Zealand, singlehandedly winning a series on Lankan turners, match winning knock in India and multiple match winning knocks in Carribean against respectable home attacks, his work in UAE was respectable too when Yasir looked unplayable.

Nah bowlers are inherently better than batsmen, especially the ones with longevity, and I am always iffy on rating current players too high (I rate Trueman>Bumrah for now). So will rate Trueman ahead until Root has an excellent Ashes or he retires.

He is in top 2 conversation. I just think Hobbs and Tendulkar have the ex factors to clench it among them primarily. I have said time and again it's alright to rate Viv over Sachin, I just find the career lengths of those 2 totally convincing.
